In the 1980s and 1990s, there were a few “top floor” restaurants and bars. John Q’s was atop the Capitol Plaza Holiday Inn. There was a bar atop the newly opened Hyatt Regency on L Street. Those are 2 I remember. Both places were classy and people dressed nice to go into these and other places. Now when you go to nice restaurants, the crowd can be dressed a little too casual. For example, if someone is going to dinner at The Firehouse in Old Sacramento, don’t wear shorts and beach shoes, regardless of the season.

Watching this in 2024, I'm glad I found this video. I'm a big boxing fan and watched Cinderella Man when it first released. I thought the betrayal of Max Baer in the movie was how he was in real life. Now I know the movie was wrong, and Max Baer was the total opposite of how he was betrayed.

Extreme opposite characters is what sells movies. It’s a Hollywood drama feature with a hero, it’s not a documentary.

I get so upset when i watch these because i habe loved this team since i was 5 years old now im 28 now. Jason Williams is still my all time favorite player amd im glad he won a ring but it would have been so legendary to get the Kings a championship. Then we got Bibby and we almost had it!!!! 💔💔💔💔 We came so close... its the most tragic NBA story.

Sure seemed deferential to Braddock and Louis. And like-able… Back then trash talk was not the promotional tool it is today. I loved the ‘old’ fighters: They fought everyone, and often.

First there was nothing personal in Ron Howard's portrayal, it's just a movie and it was about James Braddock, not Max Baer, right from the opening credits, the Movie is called "Cinderella Man" meaning Braddock was the hero of the Movie, when you have a Hero you need a villain, this was NOT a Documentary, it was about real people but the whole ides of making a movie is to put "Bums on seats", the first thing you need to do that is a Hero, the hero must be an underdog, like David and Goliath, Goliath was probably a good guy too but he gets a lot of bad press, the second thing you need is a Villain, if they had both been good guys in the movie it would have been boring, it would have been a flop at the Box Office You had to be rooting for Braddock for the movie to be a success, to Root for Braddock is much easier if you don't like the Villain, they had to make Max Baer unlikable, I understand Max Junior and the Baer family being pissed off, I would too if it was my Dad, but the movie could not have been the success it was if it was made any different, as Ron Howard said, it was made from the viewpoint of Braddock, not Baer, that would be a different movie altogether Hollywood makes a lot of movies about real people but none of them are based on being accurate, they are all based on selling tickets

Too many historic buildings were torn down in cities across the nation in the name of redevelopment. Some of it was necessary, but often it went too far. Historical preservation groups did manage to save many historic sites, esp after the Bicentennial year of 1976, which spurred much historic awareness and conscience. Routing I-5 through the West End was a big mistake. Much of historical value was lost and Old Sac could have been twice as large.

I interned at KCRA in 1995. I had grown up watching the Sacramento stations and Mike Boyd was a familiar face on TV. It was a hoot walking through the offices and hallways of channel 3 and seeing Mike and the others there doing their jobs. One morning, I parked in the lot and got out of my car with a bagged lunch. From behind me, I heard, in a deep voice, "Brought your lunch too, huh?" I turned around and it was Mike - who had just arrived also. He smiled and showed me his lunch bag. I said "Oh yeah. It's gonna be a long day." He said "Yes, for me too. A big announcement today." I said "The closing of McClellan Air Force Base?" "Yup. I got that one." he said. I grew up watching him and the other KCRA personalities and I found myself chatting with him in the KCRA parking lot.
