These "hikes" are no way laughable or just some dare, they are incredibly dangerous and border on the suicidal... The NaPali coast and its mountain ranges are so beautiful and deadly. Social media and videos like this encourage this kind of risk-taking, daring others to do it whilst taking plenty of selfies... Hiking should be relaxing and fun, not about pushing the envelope and risking death. Whether it's Kauai or the Grand Canyon or any other iconic landscape, taking these kinds of risks is pointless, life ends soon enough without rushing it. What's more, is that rescue teams have to risk their lives to either save someone or recover their body. Point is, there are so many fabulous hiking trails in Kauai to choose from, sure you can twist your ankle or break a leg in a regular city park, but hiking along a sheer cliff slope??? Ironically and sadly, even with all the warning signs, most deaths in that region are lost by trying to cross the raging stream, which can rise very quickly and hide the slippery rocks below!

On Kauai, there lived a gentle giant named Puni. He was a great friend to the menehune - or the little mystical people who lived on Kauai. Puni would often travel with his little friends to visit the Kalalau Valley in Na Pali. because Puni was so tall and the menehune were so short, Puni the giant usually ended up waiting for his friends for hours here at Kalalau. To help pass time, Puni began to sculpt the cliffs of the Na Pali into beautiful curved shapes. When his little friends asked him what he was making, Puni would tell them that they would have to wait till he’s finished and see for themselves. They are the mountain tops of Mu.

We just got our permits and we are heading out the first week of September. You’re making me a little less scared of crawlers ledge. My husband and I are in our 50s and we’ve done the trail to the falls, which was 8 miles round-trip, but decided we have to do this to say we did it. I can’t wait to experience the entire trail . My apartment building has a "free" table. Interesting stuff gets left on it I saw a cassette to CD adaptor for a car stereo, if you remember those, lots of kitchy art, old dishes. One day there were a few packages of tampons and pads. I think one of our residents went into menopause. Another time there was cat toys and litter. I think someone lost a friend. ANd another time a big ampersand. You know, the & sign. No other letters, just the & sign. Still wondering what the story behind that was. Then someone stole the "free" table because they thought it was the "free table". It was later returned.
@LiveYourFulList2 жыл бұрын
I think a free table is a great idea! The ampersand may have been used for a wedding! I saw a couple once who tied a big ampersand between their chairs during dinner :)

Kudos to you! I have walked in and out of the Kalalau 4 times and one time, I hang glided off the Kalalau Lookout, landed on the beach and camped there for 17 days and nights. (Hang Gliding Magazine September 1978 issue) This was over 40 years ago. The last time, in 1982. You made me jealous when you encountered the goats. All the times I have been there and never a goat, except when I was at the Lookout, when a Poacher fell over the cliff, trying to "capture" one, dead or alive. Poacher died. I was surprised to see so many other people, at the beach, when you were there. I believe your video will enhance many healthy outdoor adventurers to experience what you and I have experienced.

Hi Kim! I use Osprey's Ariel AG 65 backpack. So it holds 65 L, but you could do this trip with a smaller pack if your hiking partner is also taking some!
