This is a little deceptive because most of the time you're going to push your front passenger seat up against the baby seat so that it doesn't do this. You can also put a bar underneath of the front to keep it from moving. I would say they fail to do the test properly

It's called a chest clip. It has to be at armpit level or it can cause internal injuries in a crash. It does NOT keep toddlers from escaping! Any determined toddler will turn this into a dangerous accessory by pushing it down to their belly in their attempt to escape. This "paperclip" style chest clip was banned about a decade ago in the U.S. but oldest child (now 13) had no problems grabbing this thing by the sides and pushing out, thus pooping the harness right out and allowing her to escape. The two piece chest clips always just get pushed down by toddlers until they either escape from it that way or they manage to figure out how to undo the dang thing to escape. Be happy you don't have to use these blasted things. I chose to order ECE R44-04 (Britax Hi-Way II) and iSize (Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus) seats for my third child out of sheer frustration with American seats. Yes, it is technically illegal to actually use a blissfully chest-clip-free, foreign car seat in the car here, but it is perfectly legal to import them. My aunt in law actually brought the Maxi Cosi over on the plane with her on one of her visits here from Germany. Yes, it was declared at and passed by US customs! In my experience, you're not going to get ticketed or fined for breaking the label portion of the states individual ar seat laws. The only people who've given me flack for using foreign seats, are child passenger safety technicians. I'll take the heat for the sake of simpler, easier to use, and SAFER seats. No more babysitters misusing the overcomplicated American harness!

This isn't a chest clip like you have in the US. We're in Europe (UK) to be exact, and it's perfectly legal to use, neither is it dangerous. :) It does stop kids escaping the harness quite well - and it's supposed to be "pulled off " easilly by an adult. It's not in any form close to the US versions, and there is no rule to have it at armpit level - though that is ofc good if you can get it there, but in the EU we have long shoulder pads on most of our car seats, and using them is not optional. Also the US versions don't cause internal injuries as such - they are designed to break on impact you see. :) It's also not a requirement to use chest clips in the US. I wouldn't have any issues importing either if I was in the US, we have heigher ERF weight limits (55lbs) on our seats, which is great - they also last longer RF height wise (125-130cm tall) which is also great. :) The Hi Way II is quite small though in the shell, the Axkid Minikid and Britax Max Way II Plus, is taller. :D Same with Britax Multitech III. :D

Inniebin It IS dangerous when comes to ignorant and/or idiot people. It allows people to think that their child is buckled by only fastening the chest clip. I see it ALL the time. That blasted chest clip is probably the number one point of misuse I see! NO ONE seems to use the damn thing correctly! And I haven't met a kid yet that hasn't managed to figure out how to wriggle themselves out of the harness at some point! I never said it was required by law here, that myth drives me bonkers! As for the Hi Way II, yeah, I knew it was small. It uses the shell of the old, old pre-LATCH model Roundabout. I had the misfortune of crash testing that Roundabout when my oldest was 2 and was very impressed with it. I think it will make it to 4 years old in which case I will grudgingly be putting her in either a Britax Boulevard ClickTight, or a Britax Frontier ClickTight. That's the only place the US standard has all the others beat is the extended forward facing 5 point harness capacity. Standard forward facing capacity for US seats is now 65 pounds (29.484 kg) and around 49 inches (124.46 cm). So for a few years I will be reverting to a chest clip and worrying about anyone else buckling her in!

This shows why it is dangerous to have the chest clip down below the sternum. So when it comes to an escape artist in a European seat, you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. They're not gonna be safe if they're getting out of the harness, but they're also not gonna be safe putting an accessory on the seat that could cause internal bruising or injuries because the proper use of the seat prevents said accessory from being used properly. www.google.com/amp/s/www.babble.com/parenting/the-little-thing-you-can-do-with-a-car-seat-to-save-a-childs-life/amp/

In Europe I don't think there is a problem with people forgetting to buckle them in and only use the chest clip - because they aren't a part of the system, so they aren't used to them at all. They are more likely to tell you it's illegal to use one (it's not) because of the European standard which states a child needs to be released in a "one click motion", though this is due to be reviewed again as it's so old, and standard procedure now is that you don't remove the children from the car seats after an accident, you keep them in and remove the entire seat in stead. There is however also another alternative for escaping kids, the 5-point-plus. Which isn't a clip at all.

@@Pressity1 these are axtaully crash tested. Chest clips themselves ate actually illegal in the UK due to hom much harm they can cause a child during a accident. These however are uk crash tested and are fine to use

Thank you for the video, i was wondering how tight the belt installed Izi plus would be, since it would handle the kid up to 25kg, it could be better than the current Izi X2 i-size.

Can you please measure the back of the seat from seat crease to the shoulder harness in its highest position and from the seat crease to the top of the headrest in its highest position? My baby is ALL torso, so the height range of clothes and car seats are very skewed for her. She outgrew her Maxi Cost Pebble at only 10 months! I need to know the seated torso height, and seated height measurements to see if it has enough room for her to grow to warrant spending the roughly $500usd on it! We live in US so we can't just go check this seat out for ourselves in a store. And it is perfectly legal import foreign seats. My aunt-in-law brought the Maxi Cost Pebble and EasyBase 2 over on the plane from her home in Germany for us! Of course she had to declare it with customs at Detroit Metro Airport and there was NO PROBLEM! We also had no problem taking our daughter home from hospital in her "foreign" seat and the cops never gave us any guff the one time we got pulled over! The US car seat standards are a joke. After getting to do a real side-by-side comparison of FMVSS 213 vs. ECE R44-04, I'm terrified having to put our oddly shaped baby in these chunks of plastic and fabric garbage that are supposed to be safe. I mean, people drive like bloody maniacs in Detroit! We REALLY miss our European seat with the cool puzzle buckle, no awful chest clip, important extra safety features, and much easier use!

Hi +George lungu II :) The top harness position of the BeSafe izi Plus is 38CM - the seat is generally outgrown when the child is 115CM tall. But as you have a child that is all torso I would recommend the other seat you see in the video - the Axkid Minikid. It is also PLUS tested (just like my BeSafe) BUT it has a taller shell and headrest so goes up to approx 125CM height of child before outgrown. Both of these seats are outgrown by height - once the child's shoulders no longer fit under the head rest at the highest position ergo you can't get your finger at all wedged between the shoulder and the headrest. The top harness position of the Axkid Minikid is 39CM - but because the seat is designed differently - the headrest is not the same shape as the BeSafe and the children fit the seat longer. Growing out of the Pebble at only 10 months old is extremely early so she is def. tall then! Just to make sure - you do know that the Pebble is outgrown once the head has reached the *top* of the seat shell yes? It does not have that "1 inch" rule that you have in America. :) Also making sure you pull baby's bum all the way down so her nappy is touching the crotch strap is important. :)

Do you find the Axkid Minikid better than the BeSafe Izi Plus?
@Inniebin
@Inniebin 9 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Jones I think it depends! Personally I like the Plus better, but I have room for it. The Minikid takes up far less space than the izi Plus and will last longer hight wise. So if I was buying for say a 3 year old, then I would go with a Minikid I think, but if I was buying for a younger child about a year old or so, I would go for the Plus because it has far better recline. It is also approved for use from 6m old whilst the Minikid is not suitable for children under 12m old and even then you can have problems as the lowest harness position is very high compared to other seats, so generally most kids need to have grown out of their infant car seat. Axkid do come with a baby cushion though that do help recline and hight, and they also have a wedge you put on the vehicle seat to place the front of the Axkid on which increases the recline slightly. It's a bit of what do you prefer and what fits your car and child best to be honest. :) Safety wise they are equal as both are PLUS tested. :)

Don't take your chances on a car seat you just found for free, or buy one from a person you have no idea who is! By buying a car seat you entrust your child's life in the hands of that person, so ask yourself, are you comfortable with that? Are you comfortable with entrusting something so important in the hands of a complete stranger? #vlogger #circleoftheday #carseat #saferkidsincars #erfmission #dontbuy #dontuse #usedcarseats #pbloggers #mbloggers #parentingtips #parenting #incarsafety
