They thrive on dividing fan-bases. They love seeing people become more enslaved to consumerism and marketing rather than concsciously, honorably and wisely remembering and learning from the truths which these wonderful stories actually represent. They DESPERATELY want to convince as many as they can that their new, post-modern, identity-politics-filled bogus stories are the same as the originals becauae they physically look the same. The ones they need to convince in order to accomplish this horrible and insidious goal will make up the next generation. They know they can't convince those who have already read the books years before all of this, so they target those who don't yet know any better amd the parents who only watch things instead of reading.

I feel like they are trying to be controversial at this point because that gets people talking about it and can inevitably generate more views on the show out of curiosity for why it’s so controversial. Ever since Game of Thrones became a smash hit, these creators have been trying very hard to copy and paste the same type of fantasy drama instead of worrying more about the original work it’s based off of. The same thing happened with the new ‘The Last Airbender’ Netflix series, and with ‘The Acolyte.

@@Swappin.Thoughts It's likely that the main reason why the G.O.T. show did so well was because the original material apparently allowed for that kind of insane, dramatic, perverse, worldly, secular type of story which is full of spiteful one-liner-dropping characters but very few of them with actual virtue.

Its a common lie that people spread that Herbert was upset about people not taking dune for the message he wanted because Herbert was writing god emperor when dune was published and was the warning he wanted to tell people. Dune was a Lawrence of Arabia prequel that he wrote to be ambiguous since he wanted the follow up books to show the result of following a charismatic leader. Making Chani his detractor was dumb since who dates a girl that just says you are a fraud when you literally have a planet of women that think you are a god. Watch the throne room scene from lynch with his speech to chani its 100x better than his, crying and catching a uber home new version

I don’t love it. Dune Messiah exists for a reason. They should have made Chani go through a realization that led to her cynicism, instead of having it be so immediately present from the start. It would have been a better bomb to drop on audiences who didn’t know the stories already, AND been more in line with the books.

Throughout my viewing of "Dune: Part Two" I felt very annoyed that Chani was not as she was written in Herbert's book. I suspected the change may have been to make Chani stronger to appeal to today's preference of treatment of women. I didn't know Herbert was dissatisfied with how she was portrayed in his story. That's enlightening, but at the same time, I think the character shouldn't have been changed for this movie. If Herbert was dissatisfied, his only recourse was to change her character in the next book. Villeneuve should have done the same. Keep Chani as written by Herbert, because he ended up working it out in later books.

@@Swappin.Thoughts Absolutely! It's worth recognizing that a story being accurate to our objective reality, which incontrovertibly has a moral code that no mortal gets to control, certainly can be accurately represented within fiction without committing to an actual allegory. I don't think I or anyone else DESERVES to claim that we have a PERFRCT understanding of that reality or that Lord of the Rings "PERFECTLY" accomplishes this very difficult task, but I'd personally be willing to say that, *_if_* any fictional story gets as close as us flawed mortals ever could get to accurately representing the real nature of good and evil in real life in a story, *_then_* Lord of the Rings at least gets *_pretty darn close_* to it.

These types of changes happen for a lot of reasons, but one of the big reasons is because most directors don’t care much about the story it’s based off of, and instead they like to be “creative” and make it into something different. It’s also because of the Director thinks that Tolkiens old work is outdated and sexist.

It’s a disappointment because this generation is a disappointment, plain and simple. Previous generations put tens of thousands of hours into their craft before daring to proclaim themselves as pioneers of said field, yet this cheap skate joke of a generation puts in a few hundred hours, presses a couple buttons on a computer, pull fragile imbecile faces on social media and proclaim to be the next coming. We are less intelligent, less cool, and less genuine than those who came before, and our substandard ‘art’ is a direct reflection of that. We are a joke, we have no idea how to be real men and women with honour suave and heart. Everything about us is fabricated to be attractive and socially acceptable above all else at all times because of how weak and insecure this generation is, one look at any fool with a camera on them and you can see the visible terror within their face hidden behind their insufferable half smiles because of how afraid they are to let a single muscle be out of line lest they look anything but sexually appealing. This is all this idiot generation concerns with, there is no heart or soul or sincerity in anything. Take cursive singing for example, a pathetic braindead attempt at being artistic and quaint and cute, where musicians and singers would once work in harmony to serve the song, talentless social media stars nowadays try to make themselves the centre of attention with their substandard, insecure yet egocentric voices. Absolutely everything is about looking and being sexually attractive at all times, its utterly pathetic, it shows a gargantuan lack of intelligence and caters to the poisonous consumer epidemic, where art was once a thing to be savoured, it is now gobbled down and consumed like fast food thanks to cheap bullshit like netflix. Quick stimuli corrupts the mind, it teaches one to push for nothing to attain its positive chemical releases. EARN YOUR HAPPINESS. The consumer mindset is seeing the standard of art plummet, and the primitive mindset of the consumer revolves around unintelligent sexual response. Just compare game of thrones and how utterly shite that is to the masterpiece that is lord of the rings, depending on promiscuity where it severely lacks the stunningly poetic articulation and character depth of Peter Jackson’s early Tolkien adaptions. Awareness of this leaves little to be surprised about in regard to the rings of powers short comings. You need only go back a single generation to see genuine human spirit through art, and it is the total utter dependance on phones and social media that has stripped us of our ability to communicate, to be human, to show beautifully brilliant flaws and triumph. We’re insincere, fragile pathetic pretenders of the former greats that we could never be because of the barren hollow ‘real lives’ that we propose to live. I spit at modern art and the substandard specimens that create them.

This helps me understand why the director made these changes. That said, the second part felt so drastically different from the first part. It also felt drastically different from the book. It was jarring. I think they could have done things differently. Made it more subtle and believable. Jessica was far too keen on converting the Freman. She was also made to be a monster that was pushing Paul towards drinking the water of life. Chani and Paul’s relationship felt forced. From her being so opposed to him, to falling in love, to her opposing him again. Can I also mention how off the Freman felt in the movie. Having their masks off, out in the open. They are a society all about water preservation. Those scenes just didn’t fit them. The first movie was great. The second has its ups and downs. I can’t say I like it. It just feels so off. I get what the director was going for, I respect the attempt. It just doesn’t land for me.

The differences are directly indicating the misunderstanding of the directors, writers, producers, audience etc. Chani is different because everyone has tik tok brain and can't think about layered motivations and plans within plans. They also have zero understanding of Chani's honor and responsibilities, that's why she left at the end to "empower" her because the entire universe being run by women in the books isn't female enough.
