Gary its actually Openreach not BT. The general public still blame BT but Openreach runs as a totally separate standalone business and is responsible for cabling to your home. Saying all that Openreach is answerable ultimately to BT as BT still (for now) owns 100% of Openreach but for Oftcom regulatory reasons are not able to influence Openreach. My very strong advice is to post this youtube video both to BT's and Openreachs facebook page. I promise you, this will be sorted within a week or i will buy you a pint!!

That curly wurly looking piece of metal on the cable is a wire clamp, it holds the wire on to the pole. There obviously used to be a pole on the pther side of your fence, and its been recovered... probably because its rotted or damaged and is waiting to be replaced... the cable have been cut when the pole has been removed (normal procedure) and to prevent outage for the customer at the other end of the line they have put a temporary joint in... my guess is this will have been sorted by now with a new pole. Put my money on it.

was this a agreed temporary job whilst poles were installed nearer to the new houses? I would imagine this has been resolved by now.
