@abetreblebass14 күн бұрын
@@7171jay thank you!! Strings are a 26-95 Dunlop Bass VI set, I hate the 84 for the low E. Amp is a Fender Blues Deluxe reissue on the clean channel with the reverb to taste, not as splashy as when I do the western stuff!

Very nice, but the fingering is not very well explained.
@abetreblebass15 күн бұрын
@@MTH1976GIT I had two fingering explanations in the video, one on arpeggios and one on scales. The arpeggios I simply strive to play without the ring finger, making use of fingers 1235. The scales I explain about halfway through the video are built up of patterns of three and four. That means fingers 123 and fingers 1234. It works for black key scales as well, they just don’t start on finger 1. They usually start on finger 2 or even 3. I hope that helps. Not using finger 4 on arpeggios is a comfort choice which makes speed more possible. On 3 note arpeggios you can totally use finger 4 a la 124 or even 134 if it works.
@MTH1976GIT15 күн бұрын
@ what i mean is, go very slowly and explain every note that you are playing slowly. Shredding comes from exercise over and over
@abetreblebass15 күн бұрын
@ oh my friend the idea is this applies to ANY arpeggio or scale. These are concepts to apply to whatever scale or arp you can find so that ultimately switching between arps and scales is not difficult. But let’s take your example and flesh it out. On a basic C major scale that would be CDE with fingers 123 and then FGAB with fingers 1234. You repeat this pattern as many times as you want or as your keyboard allows. Similarly on the arp for c major you would play CEGC, four notes which contain the arp in an octave, with fingers 1235 or omit the last note and repeat fingers 123 to keep the arp moving. Lastly I will say that while shredding is as you say from exercising over and over, it’s mostly about relaxing your muscles into it. Nobody can shred whose hand is tense or who is pushing too hard with their fingers. Fingering is about finding a comfortable easy way to play something and to play it the same WAY over and over. That’s the missing link. Note names and such are actually arbitrary to the idea of “shredding” in the sense that if you keep your wrist arm and fingers loose and light you can apply these fingerings to anything and get the same results.

@@7171jay I use a Dunlop 95 set!! I needed the low E to be thicker for intonation, I recommend it!!
@7171jay18 күн бұрын
@abetreblebass C00L! I didn't know Dunlop made strings nevermind a bass VI set, I've used their nylon heavy picks forever though. I did a search and assume the roundwound nickel 26-95 is the set you have? I'm using the Ernie Ball 20-90 nickel roundwounds on my Danelectro Innuendo which is a 30" scale but originally sold as a baritone rather than a Bass VI. I do have to be a little careful with the low E but it's OK and a bit better than the Squier/Fender 84 (low E) that is in their stock set. Besides that the Ernie Ball set sounds good and is really cheap going for only $11.99 USD. If one can deal with the set being on the light side they are a great deal. The Dano is very Squire/Fender VI like but a bit different, the bridge probably being the biggest difference. I like it but it seems to have a bit of it's own sound which seems to be somewhat less thunky and more clear and ringy, I admit I kind of like that thunk the Squire has even with roundwounds. I don't think it's the string set I chose (I'm guessing a bit at this point) but I have only used the one set of Ernie Balls so far on it and I have played the Squire VI's a couple of times in music. stores. Thanks for the string info, also wondering what have your VI plugged into?
@7171jay18 күн бұрын
I just realized I need to add that the Ernie Ball Bass VI (2837) set may not be long enough for the Squier and Fender Bass VI. The set I believe is intended for the non-trem Dano's but mine is odd that it has a Strat-like trem system so they are long enough for it. They are a good price but I don't want to people to buy strings that may not work for them.
@abetreblebass18 күн бұрын
@@7171jay so firstly my Squier is also 30” so the correctly identified 26-95 should be fine. Mine is running into my Blues Deluxe reissue on the clean channel with the reverb nice and wet. I just go for twang and clean lows. Usually with guitar I my amp is set dirty but for the VI cleaner is better for that classic “baritone” sound.
