I always wondered how those things are set up..... I was watching to see how on earth you get up on the platform.... looks like you went to the side of it... I was never a big fan of heights, but I have done what I've had to for work... but you couldn't pay me to go up there,,,,, that tree is just a bit bigger than a sapling ha ha! if I got up there I would never stop holding onto the tree... so I guess I couldn't hold or shoot a rifle. I think I saw the Tram 3500 stuck to the back of the bed???? where did you get that idea! anyway that was a great entertaining video thanks for making it. Steve

The older I get the less I like heights. That was the lil wil stuck to the bed. just ro lazy to find a spot in the shed for it yet. Tram does better. I only got 6-8 miles compared to what you got but my radio was putting out 8 watts. Think yours was higher powered?

@@mackspubliclandhuntingoutd6715 my radio puts out 11 watts... but a few watts will honestly make very little difference.... you've seen that in the handheld CB tests... it's not the watts it's usually the antenna. I can put a 4 watt radio in my truck and do just about the same range... rule of thumb is every time you double wattage you only gain one mile! meaning 4 watts =4 miles range.... 8 watts = 5 miles..... 16 watts = 6 miles range and 32 watts is only 7 miles range... I know it doesn't work out like that but all the books say it takes double the watts just to get an additional mile.... I have my truck RF Bonded and that has made a huge difference! ... on a unibody frame like a small car all the body panels are connected... on a pick up truck the bed and cab do not touch! the hood and the cab do not touch! so without bonding you only have the cab and roof radiating the signal..... the other piece of the puzzle is my base station radio has that NRC that cuts out most of the back ground noise, static, hiss... allowing me to hear a little further out.... I will send you a subframe car getting 18 miles with just a 4 watt radio.... 6 to 8 is still pretty good!

@steve_niceguy I may have to connect them but my bed is bolted to the frame with 8 bolts and there is metal on metal contact as I have had it off to replace the fuel pump and the cab is bolted to the frame. Seems to me they are connected but I just may try what you did.
@steve_niceguy
@steve_niceguy 3 күн бұрын
@@mackspubliclandhuntingoutd6715 I used to think the same thing... the bed is bolted to the frame.... but RF NEEDS a wide area to flow... at least 1 1/4"wide straps... regular wire will not work... has to be WIDE straps.... the bed sits on huge rubber body mounts.. and the bolt in the middle of the rubber mount is always rusty and does not flow RF ... especially once the threads rust up ... on the Fords you always see ground straps from the frame to the bed .. without the ground strap the brake lights... tail lights and running lights stop working... happens all the time,,,, if those 8 bolts really made a good connection you wouldn't need the Ford thin ground strap from frame to bed..... anyone with a Ford knows if the lights stop working to replace the ground strap.... so you really need to grind all the paint and rust off and connect wide RF Bonding straps at least inch and a quarter wide... at each corner of the bed and cab..and the MOST IMPORTANT thing is the hood firewall and fenders!! ..... I usually under coat over it to keep water out when I'm done..... I help a lot of people in my area...... pick-up trucks are TERRIBLE and never flow RF... and Jeeps are impossible to get to do more than a couple miles..... but the people I help... they never believe that is will work so I put their radio in my truck and I always do 10 plus miles range with their cheap radio.... so I tell them to go home and get their wives Toyota car and just put the radio in and see how it works..... they normally come back and say they got over 10 miles on their wife's car as it is usually a unibody... all panels bolted together.... also after 1998 most cars are now glued together!!!! if you look at the roof seems you may see a black line.. that is where the two panels are glued together.... and they don't flow any RF... I sent you a vid to watch from a real expert

I have a 77 version. Owned since early 80's. She's right on two things; it didn't sound very good on her end and grocery shopping sucks. As for the midland, people used to say the same thing to me on signal reports. I've always suspected that it's the speaker mic that's the problem. Not the rig. People are used to hearing condenser capsules etc these days. It's like a kid's walkie talkie from the 60's. The speaker "is" the mic. Paper speakers can do that but they're not very good at it, (sub mic for drummers is an exception),. I've thought about it many times but never come up with a fix. I have speaker mics for my ham ht's that sound awesome. But they're not made this way and I wouldn't really know how to adapt one but I am thinking about it now. Open the mic and you'll see a tiny paper speaker like from an old transistor radio. Cleaning all the lint and dust out would probably help a great deal if you suspect audio quality at the other end is lacking? Cheers.

@@mackspubliclandhuntingoutd6715 Yeah - we could hear you o-k but audio quality on them was never great and I still think it comes down to the mic. Paper speakers aren't very good at being microphones - but they work. That was my point. Mine is rather dull sounding and that hurts when you're down in the mud trying to be heard. After all that said, still love mine and I'm keeping it while contemplating a different mic. I came upon this channel by accident wondering if folks still used them. Cheers again.

I just watched it the second time and realized out of all your video's I think this may have come in the clearest of all your handhelds???? ...that was CRYSTAL CLEAR... you could easily talk back and forth to someone 2 miles away like you were on a phone! ..... maybe it was the conditions??? .. I looked at a couple of your other videos... none came in as good as this radio!

I'm looking forward to your normal range test.... I think that video will be a big hit as people want to buy a nice handheld walkie talkie but never know which one to get... so they look for video's of all the ones you can currently buy ... all your videos are old handhelds that no one searches for.... but people are very curious whether to get the Uniden Pro 501 ... Cobra HH50 Midland 75-822 President Randy FCC II or the Uniden pro 538....... my choice would be the Midland 75-822, it gets the best range out of all of them!!! hands down!!!! ... the lowest watt one and my personal favorite is the Cobra HH 50... if you ever get a chance to get one... you will love it... best display.... feels great in your hand... easy button placement.... heavy duty belt clip long battery life. I think after you do your Range test of this handheld CB, Manufacturers will start linking your video to their product.... hell I may even leave a link on Amazon after you make it!!!!! make sure you tell them not to use it in a car! @@mackspubliclandhuntingoutd6715 I'm sure you know..... a car is a giant Faraday Cage.... meaning Radio signals will not go in or out of a metal cage / or car... it has to have a CB antenna on the ROOF which plugs into the Antenna jack of the handheld....... people don't know that you can't use a rubber duck in a car..... they think you can be in the car with the handheld using the rubber duck antenna and it will work..... it will not get 50 feet!!!! even if you stick the rubber duck out the window!!!!! ...so 50% of the bad reviews come from people trying to use them inside a car... they get 50 feet of range and call the handheld a piece of junk and return it.... all because they don't know you can't use a handheld CB inside of a car... it needs the antenna outside of the car.

looks like you got a good one! it's amazing how many of these HandHeld CB's I find at our local Amazon return Center.... I think people buy them thinking they will put it in the car and be able to talk to people with that rubber duck antenna... and as we know a car is a large Faraday cage that will not let radio signals in or out of the car.... so they leave TERRIBLE feedback on Amazon and return the radios... if they would just put a normal magnetic CB roof antenna on the car and plug the roof antenna into the handheld it would have worked great! sad they get all that bad feedback, the manufacturer of the radios really takes a beating on the feedback just because people don't know you can't be in a car with it. ... when I do my handheld KZbin video's I'm going to state it can't work inside a car on every video to try to educate people know. that radio is ok.... I have three of those and they are all dirty shows 3.50 watts dead key the MOST of any of my radios... and on my Peak meter it shows 20 watts!!!! we both know that is impossible what's it doing is transmitting dirty across two channels and fooling my peak meter... but it's still a fun radio and I've got 3.5 miles clearly with it to my base.... my only complaint is that horrible belt clip.... they could have used a Potatoe chip that was stronger!!!!

I talk on 37 LSB from Massachusetts to South Africa.. Ireland... UK ....France ... Jamacia .... Scotland.... Poland...... I can just hear the people and talk to them.... if I turn off the NR all I hear is static!!!!!! I have a guy down the street from me with the same Antron 99 antenna and about the same height ( 48 feet).... he has a Anytone 6666 that does NOT have the NR Technology ... he hears me talking to these guys all around the world and all around the country but he can't hear them... he calls me on the Telephone and say's how they hell are you talking to those guys????? so he bought a Radioddity QT 60 that has that NR function.... and he now also can hear those far off stations and talk to them... total game changer... also I can talk to someone with low 4 watt power that might be XX miles away.... with that NR I can hear him because it got rid of the noise.... and with my 60 watts output I can easily reach him.... but if it wasn't for that NR I could never talk to him.. so it adds a lot of range... when I do my handheld CB tests I make sure I put it on NR #2 or # 3 and I can hear my handhelds 4 miles out ... without it... just static! give it a try.

@@mackspubliclandhuntingoutd6715 hi Mack... I friended you on FB ... the Noise Reduction Technology is very different than ANL and NB... they invented it about 2 years ago and it really caught on about a year ago..... the ANL Filters out engine noise.... the NB is about the same thing, it reduces unwanted interference and static from various sources, such as engine noise, power lines,......... Noise reduction technology on a CB radio can help to improve "audio clarity" by removing unwanted background noise, such as: Hissing, Humming, and Wind. but it works more on the audio... cleaning up the audio and filtering out the hiss and static .... .. on the #1 setting it makes the voice you hear sound a little like that person is in a fish bowl, BUT VERY CLEAR... on setting # 2 the voice has a lot more fish bowl sound but you will not hear any static or hiss... more like a telephone call..... on setting #3 I never use it... they really have a fish bowl / out of space alien sound to it.... but you can plainly pick out the voice without static and hiss.... I've never needed #3.... so try that new radio out some night and see if you pick up people further away than normal.... and if it helps try the handheld Range tests with the NR technology... it works really good on AM /FM but for SSB it's out off this world... welcome to the 21st century!!!!!!
