TMNT on the NES is a flawed game, but it's still a good time. I think one of the valid criticisms AVGN had against the game though is how little of the game is actually based on the TMNT franchise. I suppose the pyama ninjas and little weird robots are supposed to be foot clan and mousers respectively, but after that? I don't know, weird eye-ball UFO, flying robot head man and squat-guy, i don't really recognize. I think it's still a pretty solid game all things considered though. The only complaint i have is that the final stage what with RNG Technodrome and the inside of it are a massive spike in difficulty. I've beaten many hard games on the NES, but that last stretch of TMNT made me tap out 🤣

As you point out, I think most folks get that the AVGN is exaggerated for comedic purposes. The issue (which I don’t really blame James for) is how this style is used unironically to mock everyday people, etc. I mean, imagine if someone used language like that to attack a reporter covering a real story of actual importance…oh, wait…

Angry Video Game Nerd is a CHARACTER. A combination of mainly Mike Matei and James Rolfe dialling everything to 11 for comedic value. As turtles fans, they would almost certainly have loved the game as children. I have heard Matei talk about how the game is good, and that he regrets people believing otherwise as a result of that video. This video is attempted to discuss and dismantle that belief. Not some KZbin character's experience as a child, but the very real matching opinions about the game that have been formed as a result of the millions of people who have seen AVGN's video.
