Hi, I was wondering if I could remove a gloss glaze and underglazes from a porcelain figurine I’d like to completely repaint with acrylic paint?
@joannevogel3 жыл бұрын
If the glaze are unfired, you can just wash it off and when completely dry, paint. If the piece has already been fired, the glaze is permanent. You can use fine sandpaper to texture the glaze and then paint on it though.
@serenaprendergast87503 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I was afraid of that. I was hoping to be able to dissolve it with some sort of liquid solution. I appreciate your help🙏🏼

can you share where you got your stilts from? when I use a stilt it leaves metal marks on the bottom. I need new stilts that don't do that! also what is your favorite brand of clear glaze? thanks
@joannevogel4 жыл бұрын
I use Amaco clear glaze, I believe it is the LG 10. The stilts came from my local shop, Krueger Pottery in St.Louis (they have an on-line shop). If you are getting stilt marks, you can use a fire brick to "sand" down the stilt nubs to smooth it out

Thank you for posting this! I have problems getting hot glue to work for me with cardboard. It always seems to come right off after it cools. I'm going to try this out with the tabs and see if that works better for me. 🙂

I appreciate the tutorial. It looks like a good piece of equipment. You think this extruder beats the NorthStar variety?
@joannevogel4 жыл бұрын
I have been happy with this extruder, the only downside is the bottom plate gets bent out of shape after lots of use. Because of that I might be inclined to try a different brand when I end up needing to replace

Hopefully you see this soon, I am in a pinch. I painted bisque plates with Amaco gloss glaze and wonderglaze. I fired at cone 6. I now want to clear glaze the whole plate. Will that alter the coloring that was originally fired??
@joannevogel4 жыл бұрын
Usually clear will not change the original color of an under glaze. However when clear is applied to a colored gloss glaze, it can have an impact on the final color. This especially true for specialty glazes with matte or semi gloss finishes. I would recommend doing a test title to see the result first.

Great tutorial! Thank you for the various methods you showed. I have a question. How do you seal the joined as well as the exposed edges of the cardboard to look neat so you can't tell it's actually cardboard? I want to paint my cardboard project but the edges look untidy and you can tell that it's cardboard. Once again, thank you so much xx

Hi I need help. How to stop black underglaze from running? I have painting my figure eyes pupil black with clear gloss and when it got done out of the kiln the pupil got smear. Please anyone help.
@Tangobutton5 жыл бұрын
Are you using black underglaze? Not black glaze. Underglaze will not run. Paint the colors on bisque, then fire. Then paint on clear and fire again (typically 1 cone hotter)
