14:45 & 15:38 - In division, the denominator is divided into the numerator, for example, one-half is one divided by two. As I've met folks that were taught different ways to do multiplication and division, what you said my sound correct to you, but I think it is more common to say 3084 divided by 8000 and 900 divided by 1000. 23:41 - I think the 50% reduction limit is more for the lower earning person with a low non-covered pension and many years of SS. That person would have many years in SS, but perhaps none that are substantive. This person would not be helped by the 20 to 30 year adjustment, as it would not apply. 25:00 - Persons should have some responsibility to be aware of the rules. As SS is a champion of confusion, this is hard. The various retiree organizations should be out there making their future members aware, rather than attempting to imbue victimhood. And they should be pushing the CHEAP non-FICA paying states to changes their ways and ultimately end this issue. 30:40 - I have yet to see an example where the gmvt worker, getting both their non-pension and SS, has less take-home than anyone with the same earnings would gets with SS alone. The gmvt worker gets a 40% (or more) replacement rate for their second/additional job, where as normal folks get a 32% rate. 32:15 - Thank-you for your explanation of GPO. I can not recall another presentation that pointed out that GPO simply implements the Dual Entitlement Rule. The 2/3 (67%) vs 100% is an indication that non-covered pensions are about 50% more valuable. I am curious, in every other description of these rules I've seen, 15 states were mention, rather than the 26 states you mention. My vote is that WEP and GPO are FAIR as it treats all SS recipients reasonably equally. I understand that many are unaware and surprised, but that argument rarely appeases the copy when you don't see the speed limit.

I have found out about this law and I got a letter telling me about how much I may get . I have worked only 15 years for a school and that will be 585 monthly and the SS will be only $ 932 minus the WEP .so am I getting only40% of my social security

If I grasp your facts, the pension will be $585. As for SS, your AIME was about $1036, causing a PIA of $932. 932. Your WEP adjustment is limited to 50% of your pension, so at most $293, so your actual SS benefit would be $639, closer to 68%. When you add the $585 and the $639, you get $1224, so more than the raw SS would have been. Try calculating your SS with your school earning included, I bet you will still be ahead.

I have a question, i hope you can answer, i have been on SSI for 8 yrs now, but why do i only get the $943 when i worked 12 yrs active duty in the Marines and 13 or more yrs full time as a civilian, i was told i had the max amount of credits needed (like 40 something,43?), whatever the max is, they said they only look at the 2 yrs before you applied for social security, well i was homeless for 3 yrs before i applied, but what about all my work history?, shouldnt i get more?. I hope you or someone can help.😮

I see on the 'whats new in 2024'. It shows maximum $$ for earned income but these $$ are not broken down into gross or net $$. It always angers me that both husband/wife worked their asses off their WHOLE LIFE and when one dies the surviving spouse only gets 1 of the 2 peoples benefits.
