The avg. American is having a tough time, I know I am not alone. There are others in same position as me. By certain statistics: 22% of americans have no retirement savings. 64% are worried that they will not have money in latter years while 47% of adults who are not yet retired think they have to work part-time in retirement. How can I best grow the 120k I have saved so far for retirement which has depleted over the years?

Yeah its not inflation, its the fact that nothing for the average person matches it. Wage-based income in the United States is so broken right now and because it's become politicized, facts don't matter in the debate anymore. I'm worried for my future children, but also for the environment I'll have to raise them in.

Pension equals group annuity. Annuity equals individual pension. Why are there ads to not buy annuities? Most are bad deals. In other words don't just refuse annuities. Filter them carefully fro how good a deal they are. Early in life we prepare for work. Early in work we develop income. Them in middle age we build net worth. Nearing retirement it's time to convert assets to income. Annuities are one way to convert assets to income, as long as you filter carefully for which ones are a good deal.

Not relly. And if you want to state going back to the gold/silver standard or crypto...please.... Those are dependent on market values, hell...even paper money is too, but not as much. If you invest in society (making sure your 'workers' are well fed, healthy, housed, and educated--which corporations should have some of their exorbitant profits put into those things) which also translates into more jobs, more STEM, and that translates into regaining our place in the top 10 nations. Personally, although I no longer am able to work, mainly due to mental and physical burnout from working 80+ hrs/wk, I would have paid 1/2 my paycheck on making sure of making sure myself and those around me keeping healthy, educated, making sure farmers getting paid fair market for any and all products (keep the corps out of that), making sure myself and all those around me getting housed well educated. I'm not saying everyone has to have a PhD or anything like that. However, I do believe that too many facets of society have too many people in the pot: corporations failing to pay fair taxes and fair wages, political fingers on saying how and how much should be allowed and for what programs to allow people to live above the poverty line and therefore the worse schools in those areas and not able to feed their families in such a way to keep from getting or having chronic health problems...etc etc. Strong economies mean strong monetary systems. No, it's not a handout, it's taking care of the population to a point that people are willing to work (as in 1 job, 40 hrs max/wk and still be able to be a single parent with 3 kids) and still have the means to help the next generation step further up the ladder. So, it's not as simple as even what I've put it, and a far cry from the statement you put out. Do research on economies here and around the world. Then prove to me that I was wrong.

You think there was no clean water and no schools prior to the income tax?
@jewellunacy
@jewellunacy 8 ай бұрын
@@1retiredknight Well, if you look at the conditions prior to water treatment (which started in earnest in the 1940s or 50s), and no real public schools until the same time period, yeah. Wells only served either small towns and rural farms. Cities? Those were located on rivers where industry was high, along with waste. You must not have lived in the 1970s either. I grew up seeing the foam along rivers and the start of well water being poluted enough to have testing showing various carcinogins. As for public schools, think about this: most were for boys, and if not just for boys, then only up to high school for the most part. So think about things, learn your history, and then get back to me. Oh, don't count from the 17th century either. Also, even Washington only had tutors, and not in any stretches of time to learn enough. That's why he was almost broke and started his military career. Like I said, learn your history, look at what actually is the timeline. I also added a lot more to my list.

@@jewellunacy You are demanding I "look at" things that are objectively untrue. Even if you disingenuously only count sewage treatment using chemical precipitation as "water treatment" that has been going on in the US since the 1890s. States had well structured public school systems in the early 1800s. I await your rationalization for how those weren't "real". Pollution was not significantly worse before the creation of the federal EPA than after. Schools in the US were not historically limited to boys only. As for public education stopping at high school, that is still true. You repeatedly demand I "learn history" while making claims that show you paid no attentions to historical fact.
@jewellunacy
@jewellunacy 8 ай бұрын
Before water treatment plants, and even in some areas today, the only clean water was streams and wells. Guess what? It took the 1970s EPA laws to help clean up bays, and rivers and slowed down the poisoning of wells. Even now, aquifers are poisoned with 'forever chemicals' (I liven in a city with 2 aquafers and both were affected due to flame retardants used for aircraft fires) and wells with farming chemicals (herbicides, anti-pest, and fertilizers). There were literally fires on rivers due to pollution. So yeah, I count anything that purifies water, even if still tainted with forever chemicals. Forever chemicals can't simply be removed from water due to being in just about everything, seas, living things, et al. (Thanks Dow Chemical). So, the damage is done in that field of water purification. So, yeah...you need to look at aquafers for most cities, and rivers for cities and towns, wells, and even rain capture. Plus,, 'purified' water also (in most areas of the US) also contains fluoride which is added to processed (purified) water. So...I think you're in the wrong on this. You might be thinking of septic tanks. So, you need to look at all sides of getting clean water: storm drainage, rain, home/industrial waters, rain, or other natural sources of water. Both intake and outtake, processing of those waters to go into even gray water. So, in the end, you need to prove to me what I'm getting wrong.
@jewellunacy
@jewellunacy 8 ай бұрын
You can also add bleach or bleach analogs to water in small baters (as like in camping or small tank systems). This can also count for water treatment. But even letting water sit to remove sediments, and/or filter it via some sort of cloth or raw ingredients of cloth, you still would need to treat it to make sure you don't get cholera, E. coli, saminella and more. So, again, you might want to drink water straight from a steam or lake, but you're doing it at your own risk. Here where I live, it's not recommended at all due to one or more of the natural contaiminents that causes diarrhea, gastrointestinal infections (which generally ends up throwing up), becoming dehydrated, and even death. Even before heavy industrialization and population growth, you still drank 'fresh' water at your own risk. So, yeah, we end up supporting and given out grants for water and wastewater treatment plants , along with healthy piping (research recent cities with led piping issues and how it's slow on getting those pipes replaced) so cities that rely on aqufers can try to at least clean up their water supplies. I'm not going more on my soap box and research recommendations. I lived in times that ended up with typhoid and colera outbreaks, the river pollution that nearly killed any wildlife in those waters making those waterways nothing but sewage piping from chemical plants of various sorts or industry that used heavy chemicals and/or waste that they felt they could dump into water ways (and therefore aquafers), fires on those rivers, and all that. So, yeah, you might call me a 'tree huger', but I do wish people would clean up their acts and take care of what is and has been here. Otherwise, nature will take out her fury on us.@@1retiredknight

Taxation is theft. A. Government social programs come with more red tape than private programs, allow for government waste, and allow citizens who procure said services to exist on the dole for life. The largest social program is Social Security, so just take a moment and review that as a retirement scheme for yourself because that's what it's supposed to be. You pay in for life, if you die your payments are absorbed by the government. Yeah, great idea. Want to talk Medicare, private medical insurance requirements and the skyrocketing medical costs? Not to mention those great social programs like NPR and the Endowment for the Arts...B. If taxes on goods would fund the government, then we could do away with fines, fees, and confiscatory programs, right? I would love to go back to when politicians were independently wealthy themselves, as that shows they know how to make money and manage it; as opposed to the insider trading that happens today, making poor pols wealthy through a practice that will get a normal citizen jail time. C. There should be one tax rate for all, if taxes are necessary. No extras, just everyone paying the same percentage. That eliminates the need for a large IRS, because there is no need to look beyond did they pay? Taxes should not be used beyond funding the needs of national security, law enforcement, and border controls. We live in a Constitutional Republic, a form of democracy that prizes the liberty of the individual to form their own lives and paths to happiness. That's why certain freedoms were enshrined in the Bill of Rights, the States were granted powers, and the Federal Government was checked in power through a Bicameral Legislative branch, and a Judicial branch charged with upholding laws passed by the legislative branch, so long as the laws remained in the boundaries laid forth in the Constitution. That is also why the Constitution was made to be amendable. If you see a wrong, it can be amended. Where is the Amendment to allow for permanent taxation of the people? Where is the amendment to allow the government to appropriate funds from one to give to another deemed less fortunate? Under which amendment is the government allowed to seize individual property (sometimes without a crime being committed)? Who was in charge when this taxation began in 1916? Why, the first "progressive" president, Woodrow Wilson, who began the road to social programs, the united nations idea, and a sovereign federal government idea...and indirectly, in just a few years, we had the great depression. We have embraced this BS nowadays, and how many economic crises have we endured? How many wars to ensure the economy doesn't slump? How is that government funded military industrial complex working out? I think Eisenhower showed concern over that. Wouldn't it be nice to just get back to that idea that "ALL men are created equal, endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights: life (to live), Liberty (to live freely) and the pursuit of happiness (to live, live free, and be happy with your own results)?

This is so misleading. A. He is comparing when the government did literally nothing that was for the widespread benefit of the people. B. He is ignoring the fact that the taxes on goods made up nearly all of the money needed to run the government, especially since most politicians were independently wealthy themselves. And finally, C. I am ok with taxes as long as they are paid by the rich and the corporations without all the loopholes. I just want that money to go to social programs and education rather than bombing brown people around the world.

@@BrassBashers we're bombing Russians? Since when? When was the last time we bombed the Russians? Most big corporations pay zero or close to zero taxes. In addition to that, most of them receive some form of government money, either directly or through over 50% of their workers needing government aid in the form of food stamps or WIC. The rich don't pay a PROPORTIONAL amount of taxes compared to the rest of us. In addition to that, they either invest their excess in circular money markets that don't further the economy, or horde their wealth which negatively effects the economy through stagnation. Aside from all of that, my points directly addressed what was said in the video. However, your points are just regurgitated conservative talking points, to best of my knowledge false(depending on definitions), and red herrings intended to avoid addressing the issues brought up.
