I'd be curious to know what you two meant when you said that children should be recognised as sexual beings. It struck me as a bit odd. Like, of course you should give children the option to explore their sexuality, such as not banning masturbation or creating shame around the topic of sex, and teaching them how to have safe sex instead of preaching abstinence. But I'm not sure if you meant that?
@Cyndi_Darnell Жыл бұрын
Yes. That's what I mean. Read my work more widely and you'll hear it referenced rather than solely out of context sound bites like this.

@headofathousandsheepswool always take my work in the larger contexts it's offered as a complete body of work. Once you're familiar with my writing, you'll see more about how my ideas build upon each other. I do expect my audience to dig deeper. I tend not to spoon feed people as much as I invite engagement with critical thinking across my entire body of work.

Your response to the part about the person who didn't want to talk about sex at all struck me as a little strange. Is it not the person who wants to talk about sex who has the power in this? I feel like by trying to continue a conversation about it with someone who is clearly distressed by it, that person is controlling the dynamic way more than the person having a reaction to a topic that - presumably - was traumatic for them. I feel like the solution here is not to force a conversation onto them, but to consider if you're compatible if you need sex for the relationship to function - and how to support the other person emotionally regardless of your verdict.
@Cyndi_Darnell Жыл бұрын
If someone is "distressed" it's a very different issue. I don't think we talked about people who are "distressed" by sex in this video. The focus is on getting better at talking about pleasure. Not at all forcing "distressed" people to talk about anything. That would, I agree, be entirely inappropriate.

If a post menopausal woman agrees to scheduled duty sex even though she has no desire, is that helpful or harmful for a couple’s sex life long term? (Asking for a friend obviously 😉)
@Cyndi_Darnell Жыл бұрын
Read the book and you'll see that this isn't the question to ask of yourself. Re-education around desire is crucial.

My wife and I have been together 30 years (25 married) with two kids (17 and 22). We are open/poly and the only rules we ever imposed was to use protection and get tested on a regular basis (about every 3 months or so). We found to many rules was problematic and really impeded our ability to act autonomously in our relationships. Once we lifted all the rules for the exception of the two stated, we were so much happier.

Excellent stuff. I grew up with extraordinarily vague but somehow still very rigid ideas of what love, sex, and relationships are, and how they work. I wasn't taught anything, it took a ton of abuse and therapy and abuse and therapy and years of solitude to even begin to work myself out. I blame the mandatory hugging and kissing of people my parents knew, I never wanted to do it, but had to. There was no hope as an adult to have healthy boundaries or know what kind of sex was ok, what red flags to look out for, how to handle finding them. None of that was taught as a kid and it left me far more vulnerable than I might otherwise have been.

Hi Cyndi, thanks very much for this video. I'd be interested in your course. I loved how you broke down the societal and systemic parts that contribute to people's experiences and then talked about responsibility as a weapon to slowly improve on the areas of ones life specifically relationships in this video. Blaming others versus taking responsibility for one's part in a relationship. This is very pertinent for me at the moment. Best regards 🙏👍😊.
