Yeah, people with the largest vocabularies in any language are usually avid readers. There's actually a voice reader function in the Kindle app you can turn on and it will read out whatever text you have which is great especially where you're first starting out.

Yeah, I would say try to treat it like your a getting to know a friend like in your native language, you'll ask about hobbies, stuff you have in common, talk about funny situtations that happened to you guys before. Here is some of the stuff I do: - Usually I do Crosstalk every 1 - 2 weeks so we have stuff to talk about - Talk about stuff that is happening in your life like places you want to travel, holiday plans etc. - You can look up questions online like "funny questions to ask friends" and talk about them. Usually I can't get past more than 10 in 1 session because their is usually a lot to say for each - You can play online games with eachother, make tierlists, watch youtube / movies together. Really anything where your hearing the language Overall, I would recommend treating your crosstalk partner just like any other friend you would make in your native language. Maybe I'll make a video talking about this since other's might have the same question.

Thanks! Just recently hit 3k hours of input ( I'll make a video about it if people are interested ), and I started speaking again after a long break. I stopped speaking at 2k hours and got a bunch of input till I hit 3k hours. I would say total speaking hours are around 150 hrs but I didn't really count accurately so count be way less. One the topic of speaking, something I noticed is that it feels like there is a hard speaking ceiling depending at how much input you have at the given moment. Like as soon as you start speaking, within a couple of 10's of hours you will ramp up really fast to the level of your input but plateau then it will hard to push your speaking ability without getting more input. I noticed this when comparing myself at 2k vs 3k hours, like now I understand and say more stuff when before that would have been impossible to do without getting more input.

Haha thanks Angela, its cool that people are using my videos as input. I'll try to continue to do videos in Spanish. Also thanks about my accent. They are still a work in progress haha, I feel that conversations are definitely getting easier over time but the more you learn the more you realize how good natives are. Like they literally know how to say / explain almost everything.

I used Dreaming Spanish solely until around 600 hours or so, then I mainly started watching youtube / podcasts / easier shows.

@@realJoeSema cool. So, to get an idea of time commitment, a couple of years, or... How much time did you spend per day watching it?

@@rickyrogerzz yeah I spent around 2 - 3 hours / day, but that changed depending if I was visiting family or busy with other stuff. There are also days that I spend 5+ hours like if I have nothing to do on a weekend, but it really depends. I will say it gets easier as you get more input to get more input.

@@realJoeSema that makes sense and is a really good point. 2-3 hour days of super beginner seems like it could get old fast.

Usually 1x / week, we found that 1x / week is the sweet spot where we have enough to talk about and catch up on. That being said we take a laid back approach so if we miss a week or 2 we just come back whenever we're free. Also depending on how much we have to talk about, we go from 1hr - 4hrs per session.

Closing in on 3k hours pretty soon. Lately I've been spending more of my time on speaking practice before I head to Latin America. Its been a while since I last practiced speaking, like maybe around beginning of 2024.

@@realJoeSemaNice! How many hours of speaking practice did it take until you started to feel comfortable speaking?

@@DonDadaa03 I have currently around 150 hours overall of speaking practice but I feel a bit rusty since its been a while since I spoke (9 months or so). I would say after 50 hours or so you start getting the hang of things, but I feel it depends a lot on how recently you've used the language and how much input you have as well. That being said, I'm not too worried since I can feel that with a bit of speaking practice I'll ramp up quite quickly, especially since now I have more overall input.
