The definition and choice for the word 老 (339) is wrong. In the official documentation is specified adverb (副词) for the band 2, and baidu dictionary translate to "always, often" or "very, extremely". The mean old is into band 1. In the 340 the wrong word is highlighted.
@MandarinHQ6 сағат бұрын
Thank you so much for pointing this out! You’re absolutely correct. The word "老" at 340 was incorrectly highlighted, and it should indeed refer to "老" as an adverb, meaning "always" or "often," which is categorized under HSK Band 2. Additionally, "老 (lǎo)" can also be used as a prefix before someone's surname to indicate familiarity or respect. We truly appreciate your keen attention to detail and will make sure to correct this mistake. Your feedback is incredibly helpful in improving the quality of our content. Thanks again! ❤😄

Dear Angel 老师, I once said to a friend “if I can read that Chinese character, I can write it” 😢 I was so very wrong, very very wrong. Now I understand the importance of following the sequence. Thank you for this video. 😊 Very much appreciated. ❤

对👍Thank you for sharing your experience! You're absolutely right-writing Chinese characters is a whole different challenge compared to just recognizing them. The stroke order is so important for memorizing and writing them correctly. I'm glad the video helped clarify that for you. Keep up the great work, and I'm sure your writing skills will keep improving! 😊继续加油💪

Interesting, I also think that English, Spanish or French speakers are used to understand the mistakes from the speakers and based on the context "auto-correct" the meaning of the whole sentence. On the other hand, Chinese speakers are not that used to foreigners speaking Chinese yet so it is very important for the speaker to get the correct tones for now. Maybe in 10 years it will become a little bit less important and context will become more used.
@MandarinHQ18 күн бұрын
Yes, context is certainly helpful in understanding mispronunciations, regardless of the language. I also agree that as more and more people learn Chinese (and native Chinese speakers getting increasingly exposed to their speech), native speakers will likely get better at "auto-correcting" the message of an utterance based on context when it contains common "tonal deviations". Thank you for your comment!
I like you the way you taught and examples you prepared.

Great video! I teach Chinese and my university colleagues insist on using 新实用汉语课本 which has some of the weirdest most unnatural Chinese I have ever heard in it. I spend a lot of time trying to unteach stuff like "学习汉语" and get them to say "学中文",and 学习 as a stand in for 读书, 念书 etc. Oh yeah... and “哪里,哪里”!
@MandarinHQ23 күн бұрын
Great comment! I see what you mean regarding 新实用汉语课本 and I'm pleased to hear that you're making an effort to help your students bridge the gap between textbook Chinese and real-life usage. I agree that "学中文" is much more common than "学习汉语". And "哪里,哪里" can definitely sound awkward in casual conversation. Keep up the great work of helping your students sound more natural!

I watched this video for around 30 minutes long for imitating the speaker😅 BTW,我最喜欢榴莲,很想吃榴莲但不知道怎么选呢。。不能拍拍或者敲敲😫🤣
@MandarinHQ23 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching my video so carefully! 😊 榴莲确实不好挑选,不像西瓜可以拍拍敲敲。😂其实挑选榴莲可以看外壳的颜色,闻一闻气味,或者试着捏捏看。如果榴莲的刺比较软,闻起来香甜,那通常就是熟透了的好榴莲!希望这些小技巧对你有帮助!❤
Very creative, as always. Suggestions: (1) If possible, maximum length of about five minutes, although that depends on the material; (2) toggle for pinyin and English translation, to turn them on and off; (3) more questions to test comprehension.
@MandarinHQ24 күн бұрын
Thank you for your feedback! I'm glad you like the format. I'll definitely consider your suggestions for future videos of this type (i.e. "vlog style"). I especially like the idea of including more comprehension questions throughout the video. In my personal opinion, the other two suggestions are also really good from a pedagogical standpoint. There may be some potential downsides to keeping the length around five minutes and adding a toggle for pinyin and English translation, but I will certainly keep it in mind. Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts!

The problem is that as soon I see English I somehow can't avoid reading it.
@MandarinHQ19 күн бұрын
@@PeteR-gn5ep I get what you mean! One way to work around it is to focus more on listening and try to match what you hear with the Chinese subtitles. Over time, you'll start relying less on the English text. ❤

Thank you for this! We also must remember the wise words from the 道德经 Dao De Jing : 不出户,知天下; 不窥牖,见天道。 其出弥远,其知弥少。 是以圣人不行而知, 不见而名, 不为而成。 Without going outside, you may know the whole world. Without looking through the window, you may see the ways of heaven. The farther you go, the less you know. Thus the sage knows without traveling; He sees without looking; He works without doing.
I know about the nei ge & zhe ge thing. I watch cdramas and used to speak the same but while giving HSK exams that is not correct. I have to say it like textbook.
@MandarinHQ25 күн бұрын
Yes, when it comes to HSK exams, it's important to be familiar with the formal, textbook usage. Good to hear that you are familiar with both forms and use them in their appropriate context :)
