My grandfather was contracted to work here in late 70's, early 80's. His name was Gene Caldwell. I was conceived in the cabin at this mine in 1978.

great video! You are 100% right about the mining history of Colorado. and what information they have on old lode mines that were closed down is hard to find.

Actually archaeological sites are any of historic value. Definitely in relation to Indian stuff too. I worked for a few museums as an archaeologist. I love history and mining. The global elites are shutting off vast expanses of land to human use. It’s all part of the UN Biodiversity Act. Pisses me off!

One man, Clinton, should not be able to decide what happens to so much land. It's not his to decide and he's not king. I'm amazed at how obedient white Americans have become.

Well, I am definitely going to bring me like a barrel or drum of some kind and leave it on the side of the road when I go there. People are more than willing to throw their trash away as long as it's convenient to do so. On the other hand if you've ever had to volunteer for caltrans, you know That for many convenience means as you toss it out the window. It'll hopefully land within some kind of bucket or pit

Its possible... plan for some damage to your doors if you dont have solid sliders, there are some very deep whoop-de-dos. We high centered the Raptor a few times, had to winch out. Bronco made it without issue.

Pretty sure the small structure below the tailings near the dump was a hunting blind that was built long after the mine had last been worked, rather than an outhouse. Also that stern sign on the side of the shop near the top of the tailings and the portal, warning of impending destruction has been there for years and was likely left after some kind of government reclamation. Good thing they didn't completely destroy the site. Very interesting video. BTW they are slowly cutting off access to San Isabel NF west of The Arkansas if only by virtue of the Forest Service not defending public R. O. W. access when private owners decide to close roads. Mind you this is organic rather than a concerted or official effort. Although ... with the Feds ... you never know. You can actually get stuck up there in a 4x4 after slogging downhill far from where you came in, if you are relying on old quadrangles or forest maps. The whole state of Colorado is beginning to look a coifed, pruned, and preened theme park for aging pot smoking, craft beer drinking snowboarders who are now year-round residents thinking about finally getting their set-piece tattoo finished. Soon the only access to many of these NFs will be from perfectly paved and curbed parking lots dotted with planters full of petunias at the start of non-motorized trails, and there will be adult employment programs for pot heads to rake the gravel at the side of the road so it looks pretty.

Long live the feud between hard rock and placer miners. 😁
@goldrushmines Жыл бұрын
Placer miners are great. But mining is about making money, and placer miners never really manage to pull out the long term, 7-8 figure profits. You only get that directly from the vein.
