Mary Rose Maher - I absolutely LUV your video. And your energy about Detroit! My name is Bob Wood. I live in Spring Lake, Michigan. And I love Detroit - and the Lions. I grew up in Kalamazoo... I went to MSU in 1980 - I have been a teacher my entire life. In the US I taught at the high school and community college levels in Muskegon, Michigan. Currently, for the past two years, I've been teaching in Ukraine. I live and teach English at the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv. I watched the Lions win and lose the past couple of weeks seven time zones away with a VPN. I have two English classes. In our courses, we create situations where we can use English for opportunities to think, talk, to write. The topics are ours to choose. Since the Lions were rocking and rolling - I decided to use DETROIT Michigan as my model for a few weeks - I was hoping the Super Bowl would put the cherry on the Sundae. So I made this cool Google slide on Detroit. Attached… and I came across YOU. I put you on the slide. My students loved your video….And we got to thinking - Would you do a Zoom into my classroom with 18 Ukrainian Freshmen? And you could tell us all about Detroit, Michigan. That would be so cool. The timing would be difficult for you… My class is at 8:30 AM Ukrainian time - that is 1:30 AM Detroit time… I cannot do anything about that… but please think about it. I think it would be fun. And let me know… Thanks. docs.google.com/presentation/d/16LPNaBmsA4cRxEzpOE4IpT0p9JoNLdd-8UpETwaGZkQ/edit?usp=sharing

Nice fun video..If I can be critical, you said real a tor, rather than realtor how it's pronounced ;) Also, the Central Station complex isn't going to be Ford's world HQ but will house a part of their future "mobility" unit . Keep up the good work!

I think you're overplaying the renovation of Corktown just a little. I lived downtown from 2004-2010 and Corktown was the place to be even back then with great restaurants and Mexican markets (I have pictures but can't post). As to Roosevelt park, sure it was a little shabby in places but there were regular city events there and even the police motorcycle parade. The transformation has mostly centered on the MCD and the Book Depository building I think.
@MaryRoseMaher Жыл бұрын
That is true, however, the neighborhoods in Corktown have been completely renovated and Michigan Ave is filled with brand new developments, businesses, and hotels. The amount of new glass buildings is such an awesome sight! Not to mention, the property values have increased to an average of $650,000 plus which is an incredible growth! Here's an article on the newest developments we are currently working on for 2024 detroit.urbanize.city/post/new-corktown-residential-developments-land-state-funding

SW Greenway is also new. The Godfrey hotel, Perennial Apartments and Elton Park development all built up denser development that I think will push more support for transit.

Ford is missing a futuristic opportunity by not investing into train service( of some type). Reimagining train service from the size/ type of passenger cars to the type of locomotion would be great for the future. You cannot plan the future without figuring train service in the equation. Ford could be the impetus for this future much like they were for the automobile industry 100 plus years ago.
@MaryRoseMaher Жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree with you more!!! I think it is a huge missed opportunity, especially since Ford's future focus is electric automobiles and roads. I think bringing back the train to the station would have been fantastic, but it clearly wasn't in the redesign plans. However, there will be a station with a new Amtrak coming close to the area. It would truly incredible if Ford spearheaded a new Train all electric, Detroit would really have a ton of business with that! Check out this article too about the first ever electric charging road in America right here in Corktown! www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2023/11/29/detroit-opens-americas-first-electric-charging-road/

With the new train service to Windsor, will there be a depot located in the old trains station? This seems like a good place for customs clearance and a possible hand over to a VIA Locomotive.
@MaryRoseMaher Жыл бұрын
There actually is going to be a new train rail that will go internationally, unfortunately I do not believe it will go through the old train station, which is disappointing!! I agree it would be such an awesome restoration, but Ford has a large garden and event space that will be going in that area instead. However, here is an article about the new rail coming into Detroit! instagram.com/p/C0nJ1lVv7-n/?igsh=MjJkMmIyYzQxYw==

I love this. I looked into Detroit like 4 or 5 years ago as a prospective market for a few business ideas and "drove" around the city using Google street view, was in awe of this building and all that was on the other side of the tracks. I found videos talking about the auction and possible sale to Ford, absolutely amazing to see what they did with this, the courtyard, and look forward to seeing what it does to the surrounding neighborhood. Best of luck, Detroit, such great opportunities to rebuild considerate of the people
