This place is awesome. I live In Jacksonville and have been 3 times in the last year. The variety is unparalleled. It’s worth the drive. If you love plants this place should be on your bucket list.

I visited Albania in 1978 before it was restored. It was a rainy day and the lady who owned it had doll collections all over the house. The side rooms were roped off and the visitors stood in the main hallway and looked through the doorways into the rooms filled with numerous dolls staged around the rooms looking back at you. The place was beautiful but the rainy day, low lights, plus the dolls definitely gave it Hitchcock overtones. This is an absolutely beautiful home though. I’ve visited multiple historic homes and this is still my favorite of all. The people who restored it did an amazing job.

@@Somewhereintime22 I believe that would have been Ms. Emily Cyr Bridges. The gentleman in the video worked for her for years.

@@thishauntedsouth5369 It was such a beautiful place. I visited with my parents at that time (1978) and my baby (now 46). I remember standing at the bottom of the stairs listening to the docent with my baby in my arms and looking up to see 2 or 3 people looking down on our tour group. It was kind of surreal. I thought one of the people looking down on us might be the homeowner and I remember really wanting to meet her and hear more about the house.

Why this name? Albania?

@@wdgbirmingham2 I asked this question because I am from Albania, a small country between Italy and Greece. This house was built in the years 1837 - 1842 and its owner was of European origin (probably German, according to the surname). The name Albania seemed strange to me because the first Albanians who immigrated to the USA belonged to the period after the 1880s. According to Wikipedia, the architectural style is Italianate Greek Revival. There are many coincidences. Thank you anyway 🙂🙂🙂

The original owners are my 4th great grandparents, Juila Johnson Mitchell and John Henry William Mitchell. So of course Julia's father would be my 5th great-grandfather. (Thomas Jefferson Johnson).
