Madam, I have applied the method, and after the process is complete, the smell of alcohol is still overwhelming the herb. Where could I have made a mistake, and what is the solution to make the smell of alcohol disappear? I used 99% alcohol.
@JoanMoraisCosmeticsSchool13 күн бұрын
It is going to smell like alcohol because it is all alcohol. And it is going to smell like the herb. It is a full strength extract so it will need to be diluted to use.

my beautiful colored women be mindful of what & WHO you’re looking at.. this woman does not need or use edge control but wants to show you how to make it and charge almost 2k for ingredients that’ll make your hair fall out. The same ingredients in other edge control is the same she uses and we all know that stuff is toxic.
@JoanMoraisCosmeticsSchool13 күн бұрын
Yes, Joan does not use edge control but her students had asked her for years to develop a traditional edge control for them. She did and now they use it and sell it. To contract with a cosmetic formulator it will probably cost you $8,000-$12,000 for the formulation alone.

@@JoanMoraisCosmeticsSchool it’s truly sad her student are attending any of her classes she provides or seeking advice from a white woman when y’all have no knowledge of black hair. like is said before that formula is the reason why people hair is falling out. you don't care because you don’t use it.

@@talkwithsasharidley Hi Sasha, I agree, it would be great to have more instructors for textured hair and there hasn’t been and that is why the students have come to me because they trust me to develop custom formulations for their hair types. They have taught me over all these years about their hair for me to develop the formulations they need. I take it very seriously that so many students have trusted me to develop formulations for textured and curly hair. I don’t have curly thick hair; I have fine straight hair, but I have formulations for curly thick hair. I don’t have acne, but I have formulations for students wanting to do an acne line. Yes, there needs to be more cosmetic formulators, more women and women from all cultures developing formulations. My students have never told me that edge control causes hair loss. They use it and want to sell edge control. There is also a natural edge gel formulation that is an option in the course. For over 20 years, I’ve dedicated my career to empowering women to create their own haircare and skincare products, especially for textured hair, which has been overlooked by large corporations run by white people. Many of my students don’t look like me, but they trust me to develop formulations tailored to their hair needs. I’ve tried really hard to give women a trade so they can compete with these large corporations and make products for their hair type and make money at it. My goal is to provide the science and skills they need to build a successful business that reflects diversity in the industry while also providing financial gain to support themselves and their family. All the best to you, Joan

Hello, Thank you. Our percolation method is developed specifically for making extracts for skin and hair care products. The extracts are very potent and are to be used in formulations, not on their own on skin. You can find more info regarding the alcohol here: joanmorais.com/percolation-herbal-alcohol-extract/

Can you use grapeseed oil? And can you put it out in the sun for a few weeks to make it herbal infused?
@glowingmountain12732 ай бұрын
Hi! I already made one with grapeseed oil and I loved it! light texture, easy to absorb and grapeseed oil has a lot of porperties for the skin that are good. I did the 6 weeks without any heat but then did the heat method over the oil that passed the time, at least for it worked great. I have seen others that do the sun method.

Dear Joan Morais, thank you for your channel and the interesting, informative videos. It's good to hear your recommendations. My own experience with essential oils is quite limited since I haven't tried many different ones in my home-made ointments. Because I started to make my own salves later in life, and developed eczema due to a combination of factors (stress and diet), I focused mostly on essential oils that were recommended for dry or mature skin, such as patchouli. Others I've used are benzoin (a must -- I use it in every single recipe), German chamomile (which doesn't smell as good as Roman chamomile but -- I've read -- have greater medicinal power), Rosemary (which also encourages penetration into the skin), Juniper, and Frankincense. More recently I've tried other essential oils. I read that Myrrh and Frankincense are synergistic, and Myrrh has indeed made a discernible difference but is very expensive. I was surprised by the warming and soothing effect of Clove bud essential oil. Oregano essential oil is very beneficial for my skin (and I've read on the Internet, is also effective against sun damage and squamous cell carcinoma). It's super-strong however and can irritate skin very easily -- I use only about four drops of oregano essential oil in 1 liter of ointment. As I wrote previously, these days I also use Helichrysum in every single formulation, because it quells the eczema inflammation. I would like to experiment with the essential oils you've mentioned in this video, thank you for discussing them! Wishing you all the best, Joan Morais. May you keep on keeping on!

Thanks, for sharing. What would you recommend for creapy skin?
@JoanMoraisCosmeticsSchool3 ай бұрын
It's very important to lock in the moisture and keep the skin hydrated. This is done by applying a moisturizer, balm, or oil. If applying an oil balm or oil apply it to moist skin. Protect the skin from the sun. Plant retinol like bakuchiol may help and same with other actives like hyaluronic acid.

Percolations for tinctures should be done with no less than 100 gr of dried herbs.
@JoanMoraisCosmeticsSchool3 ай бұрын
It all depends on the size of the funnel. 100 grams of herb is used when using a 1.5 liter wine bottle or other funnel (percolator). This funnel (percolator) is only 250 ml. Herbalists use a smaller funnel to make smaller amounts when they don’t want a large batch of tincture.

I truly admire you. However, I have a question: I like essential oil's e.g., lavender. Citrus like orange, tea tree , oregano, & other flowers. Their flash point temperatures for herb & flower are very low like 90°F - to - 130°F. For example if I were soak these citrus skins or lavender plant(s) first separately inside a plant milk bag immersed in drinking liquor is this feasible? For Example -- a drinking liquor of about 40 or 60 proof. Raw material -- Not exposed soaking already filtered in a plant milk bag sitting in the liquor in the plant milk bag? Is that feasible?? Could I then transfer it to a temperature controlled water distiller boiling temperature very low. Would this work? Also, it is awesome using a mug warmer, To finish alcohol evaporation - oil processing very nice. I just want to avoid self-injury. I prefer distilling food grade Drinking alcohols because after distilling I could still drink it. Will my idea work?
