My guess is that the issue with the food processor is was hat the bowl was not properly locked into place and therefore the food processor would not turn on as the bowl must be locked in place to complete the circuit to allow the food processor to run. This mechanism is a safety feature designed to ensure the food processor will only turn on when properly assembled.

Great topic, this stereotype may have been started by some plant based doctors who, at one point, constantly stated that vegans often ate processed food as opposed to their superior whole food plant based way of eating. Over time rather than an opinion, it started to become a 'fact' quoted by many wfpb enthusiasts. The problem is the plant based doctor who I first saw talking like that was treating mainly college students. I've objected in comments sections to those doctors and wfpb-ers every time they put this opinion out online. Now the meat eaters are treating this as a fact too. One great antidote for this wrong opinion of vegans is to watch the Vegan Linked series of interviews of many very healthy long-time vegans.
@TotallyForkable5 күн бұрын
This is a really interesting theory I hadn't considered; that the bias against vegan diets for their reliance on processed foods was actually started by WFPB doctors as opposed to carnists. As much as I appreciate and have learned so much from the plant based doctors, the 100% villainization of all processed foods does bother me. Yes, whole plant foods are the best for our health but we're human too and sometimes we need convenience or comfort (sometimes both!). I worry that this militant rejection of processed foods can lead to orthorexia in some people.

I am glad that more and more people are going plant based with their diet, but eating plants only doesn't make one a vegan. Vegan is an ethical position, not a diet. Most of the athletes are just on a plant diet rather than vegan. Now of course giving up eating animals and animal products is an awesome step in the right direction and probably would remove the vast majority of animal suffering as food is the primary reason for it, but not vegan. I say that as someone who avoids eating animal products as much as possible while also not claiming the title of vegan. Most vegans are just dietary vegetarians. Still love the content, interviews, and all that. Just clarifying the language of those articles.

It is awesome to see these stories and get the word out, I still feel like my whole-food, plant-based diet is rare among the trail ultra community I hang out with. I typically win my age group and finish near the top of the field overall. I like to show what is possible and that animal products are not necessary. Steroids usefulness largely comes from it's rapid recovery rate so athletes harnessing plants for similar effects makes sense. How funny/sad would it be if a vegan diet was banned in sports for it's "enhancement" effect?
@TotallyForkable7 күн бұрын
That does make sense, and that would be hilariously horrifying!! 🙈 Since I can never help myself in talking about figure skating and this is oddly related, there was a major doping scandal at the 2022 Olympics surrounding then-15-year-old Kamila Valieva testing positive for a banned substance. Her team came up with an elaborate series of excuses. The final/best one was that her grandmother made her a strawberry shortcake and cut the strawberries on the same cutting board as her grandpa's heart medication, and then she ate a copious amount of the strawberry shortcake which is how the drug ended up in her system 🫠 So figure skating fans often joke about the "drugged strawberries" 😂💉🍓

@SteveRuprecht8 күн бұрын

@extropiantranshuman8 күн бұрын
strange - because I had bleeding gums when I ate animal products and so do many other people I know - not to mention loose teeth. If you want teeth tightening - rose geranium is known for that. Vitamin C is the way to avoid scurvy - I'd like to see much of that in animal products. I mean didn't you see which foods were triggering these issues before jumping to carnivore? Realize not every plant is going to be healthy. If you eat daffodil roots instead of onions, poison sumac instead of sumac berries - and say switching to carnivore made you feel better - well of course! Plant-based isn't veganism - so yes, you can get very ill on plants - but that means you just didn't do veganism - to steer you in the right direction. Also - if you get cramps - it's more basil and barley grass powder for calcium, and baking soda to neutralize the lactic acid. I doubt drinking more milk with lactic acid helps.

It seems like the discussion around veganism has changed since Covid away from health benefits. It’s partly because of vegans wanting to point out that it’s not the point and Joe Rogan’s popularity souring and arguing loudly against the health benefits. It could just be my perspective because Netflix does seem to support veganism. I also saw the a commercial for a movie last night called Speak No Evil that had a vegan featured in the commercial, so maybe I’m wrong. It just seems like we lost traction and I think it’s because health benefits aren’t talked about much anymore.
@TotallyForkable7 күн бұрын
This is an astute observation. Yes, it seems like 2018-2019 was somewhat of a "heyday" for the "plant based revolution," with lots of excitement for mock meats largely thanks to Beyond Meat's successful IPO. Then of course a flurry of influencers jumping on the "plant-based" bandwagon to promote its health benefits, much of which was tinged with diet culture. I feel like now we're in a bit of a "course correction" phase; educating people on what veganism is really about, more and more research coming out about the health benefits of a plant-based diet, etc. I think TikTok has played a sizable role in this course correction; I see more and more sympathy for animals online and public outrage at celebrities promoting animal exploitation.

"Clean and jerk" describes the way the barbell is lifted straight from the floor to above the head in one "clean" motion without any intermediate "rest" on the chest before lifting it over the head. That requires a massive "jerk" off the floor to accomplish! Yes, I'm "man-splaining" again, I can't help myself.
@HuckleberryHim8 күн бұрын
This is wrong, that is a snatch. A clean and jerk does have a rest. A "clean" brings the bar to the chest, where you rest it for a bit, and then you "jerk" by pushing the weight up overhead. This involves a quick, jumpy movement where you land in a slight split, one foot out front and one in back

In all seriousness, it's gratifying and interesting that mainstream publications are taking note of plant-powered athletes because despite The Game Changers, the idea that one cannot be an elite athlete on a plant-based diet--I use this term the right way, to refer to vegan-by-mouth, rather than vegan-in-all-consumer-habits, ahem--continues to be doubted.
