False teacher alert. Romans 4:4-5 King James Version 4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Here is the gospel

I know you will understand this, but when I study the scriptures or listen to a fellow believers words, the Holy Spirit is with me and I can feel his approval when I am reading the truth. Comer does not point out that good works follow from faith and outside of faith are fruitless for the Kingdom and do not glorify God. Neither Evangelicals nor Reformed (why does he give those as 2 gospels?) put down good works, they only say what the Bible says, that good works cannot bring salvation. The churches I know all teach that we must live out our faith and practice it according to the Bible, especially the instructions in the epistles. I think maybe Comer only knows about churches that are superficial or maybe charismatic churches that are into health and wealth teachings. He seems unaware that a lot of solid churches are preaching the gospel in its wholeness - trusting Christ for salvation and living out that faith according to God's word (I am not denying there are numerous bad churches, but those include mystical teachings that Comer is into). I think Comer presents a distorted and confusing gospel based on his distorted view of Christian churches and a distorted understanding of the Bible.

Thank you Dr. Walton. When one starts thinking the way the ancients thought, one reads differently and pays attention to every linguistic detail. Leaning to think and ask questions regarding the text is a learned discipline. The problem in our churches today is that much of what we have been taught came from unlearned leaders of the ancient near east. Leaders who were ignorant of semitic languages and cultures . So, after reading the Bible a lifetime, one hears a professional text expert, one is at an impass as to what to really believe.

I see a lot of people getting on the interviewer for interrupting. He probably doesn't realize he's doing it. For some people finishing sentences and repeating the last word of a thought is part of their listening process. I know it's seems rude or insecure but that's not it. His brain is processing the thought very quickly and it's coming out of his mouth in agreement with Tim.

Hi John Mark, so all these years later, now that you’re a teaching pastor at Vintage, where I attend, I would love to hear your thoughts and advice on some of these same questions with some of us who are widowed or divorced. Please! I’m about to begin school of discipleship at Vintage on September 30. I’m hoping this is addressed during the course. Dating on this side of having been married is not only difficult but also confusing, although I think I’m pretty clear on the list part now. I became convicted about this within the last year. I am blessed by your teachings and everything you do. Thank you 🙏🏻

Interesting take on that passage. I take that passage to mean that 'love the Lord your God' is the commandment the rich man was not honoring. God asked him to sell his goods and follow, and he chose not to do so. The concept of faith is that you believe God. Not that you 'say' you believe God. Your interpretation seems stretched. If you have faith in God, do what He tells you. That is the evidence that you believe what you say.

I’m sorry but practicing the Sabbath is not supposed to be therapy. This Elijah story was not about the Sabbath. This is proof-texting using a scripture to make a pint you want to make. When Christianity becomes counseling 101, we’re getting it wrong, imo.
