This was amazing! I am new to the whole genre-terminologies and low tuned guitars, so I don't understand the difference between Thall and Djent yet, but this is such an awesome vibe, it feels like taking a bath in music <3
@Sutefusama8 ай бұрын
Thanks for your awesome comment ! Thall somehow is derived from djent which already is derived from metalcore breakdowns (I believe so) and has become its own genre. While thall has some djenty elements in it in most of bands songs, djent relies on syncoped riffs, palm muted chugs, 0's like they say. Real thall is pretty much experimental progressive (yet another subgenre aha), but vaguely in the metal community it became that genre with riffs that mix very high and mostly dissonant notes with real heavy chugs (and sometimes coped chugs, like in djent as said before.) It's always complicated to explain something that isn't clear even in the whole community but hopefully it helps you understand

@@Sutefusama You're welcome! Thank you for the explanation, it did help and you also gave me some terms to look up which is helpful within and of itself! I will listen into it more with your explanation in mind :)

Listen to Måsstaden by Vildhjarta, the album by the band that invented thall! You will hear higer notes than that an bigger contrasts between high and low.

How do you find these sounds lol i mean if what do i learn a certain scale or what xd
@Sutefusama10 ай бұрын
aha to be honest Calle Thomer (Vildhjarta's guitarist) has a side project where he writes songs basically in major scales, and that still works, even if if it's weird when you listen to it for the first time. But likely yes you would want to write in any minor scale, harmonic minor, melodic minor, and then put even some chromatic notes here and there. I feel like the truth is Thall doesn't really have rules. Put some silences, syncoped riffs. Write in a different time signature, try different noises with your ambient synth or guitar strings, drones, or sometimes nothing at all except riffing guitars. Different techniques like dissonance all the way, aperggios chords, slides, fast hammer-on/pull-off, and so on.
@andysdead3 ай бұрын
I think the side project's name is Stoort Neer. it's in major scale but still hella thall. Scales don't make the songs. Your understanding of the genre makes the song. Hint: All minor scales are relative of major scales, so with that understanding, you can make major scales sound dark and heavy as hell.
