You should have your aux heat locked out so it doesn’t come on when the temp is above the number that your house won’t gain heat anymore. hps become ineffective at cold temps. My house I could look at a graph and say at 15 outside my hp won’t heat anymore. I lock out my aux strips so they don’t come on above that.

Why not just connect W1 as your alternate heat for dual fuel so you don't need to run an extra wire for the star therminal?

My friend told me that someone put nest thermostat (not nest learning thermostat) for fan coil unit. it is not working for heat and high speed. Fan coil unit have 7 wire ( Y1,W1,R,C,G0,G1,G2) Google support tech suggest use Nest Learning thermostat. If I buy it then G connect High speed G2 , Y2 connect Medium G1 and (*) connect low speed G0. Am I right?

Sir, I am in Dallas Texas. I have a Nest Learning Thermostat (A0013) with a (Daikin) heat pump and just bought it (HP) because I got a GREAT Deal. I never wanted to use the heat Pump for Heat because gas is 1/3 the cost cheaper and is abundant. It cools very well. I continue to want to use the gas furnace for heat all the time and never engage the Heat Pump for heating. Do I need to TRASH this Thermostat for that to happen?

how does first stage heat pump work with G on the furnace. My furnace only runs continuous fan at 25% which is not enough CFM for the heat pump heating? How do I get fan to run at full speed?

I'm not sure what's so complicated about this. To clarify: heat pumps are economical - but slow! Gas furnaces are more expensive - but fast! So, if you want your place to warm up quickly in the morning, you want the furnace to come on and maintain your desired temperature for a while until the outside (=ambient) temperature has exceeded some level you're setting in this video. Yes, 70F is silly, but it's for demonstration only. In California your typical winter daytime temperature maybe > 55 by 9 AM - so you set your aux temp to 55F. Between 9AM and whenever the temperature drops below 55F in the evening you heat pump will maintain the heat you want - after that your furnace kicks in again. In a different climate your aux temp will be different. This is all about speed - time to reach your comfort zone, not energy savings and efficiency. Hope this clarifies this.

I think this causes your auxiliary heat to run constantly. When I changed to the setting, my electric bill was 20% higher than this time last year (month of December in NC). I am one person living in a small house, so there was no other reason why my electric bill would be higher other than I changed the setting. So I’m changing it back to where it was.
@pablopicaro7649

Seems like very bad idea economically. electric strip heat is COP 1.0 (extremely expensive), the Heat pump is COP 3 to 4 when outdoor is above 40f. and COP is about 2 to 3 when cold outside. So electric bill will be up to 4x as much on 2nd stage trip heat then the 1st stage Heat Pump

I see a lot of positive comments from folks so I can only say all of you are way ahead of me on how to best understand auxiliary heat and when and why you want it. It would have been nice to get some different scenarios about why you would want more of one or the other. I’m uncertain with his tips with the 70 degree setting means that you will always be using auxiliary heat unless the outside temperature exceeds 70 degrees or vice versa. My problem - and that is why I watched this video hoping to learn - is when temps get belo 20 my auxiliary heat kicks in but the house doesn’t get warm for several hours. I sat here with it at 59 degrees about all day. That does not seem to be right. When it’s 10 degrees outside and I can’t get the inside temp above 59 pretty much all day is NOT what I’m looking for. It would have been nice had he given some real life examples to help understand the functions that could be utilized for a particular need.
@glenjamiecombs8495

The example doesn't make sense. That would say, until you reach 70 degrees, your auxiliary is primary... at least as I interpret what he's saying.
@janwilliams4282
@janwilliams4282 Жыл бұрын
@@glenjamiecombs8495 that is how I read it as well. When temperatures outside are warm enough for your heat pump to be able to use the outside air - which is the most economical - why would you want the heat to come from auxiliary which is using the heated coils? Maybe that was from some kind of training class and they didn’t really understand how it’s supposed to work. That or I’m really confused.

I have the Google nest 3rd gen too. And I just installed my new ac unit and it has a heat pump in it. Even though I kinda don't need it cause I have a forced air furnace. How would I wire it to the nest if I was to hook it up. I have my humidifier wired in and it uses the * and I seen where heat pump or duel fuel uses the * so I'm basically lost

I have to replace my A coil, line set and out door 5 ton condenser. With LPG cost going up and down and issues with getting it. I am considering replacing the 5 ton with a 5 ton 15-Seer heat pump and a new A coil and new TXV. I'll also replace line set as I am moving the outside condenser over a bit. Question I like the Gas furnace and the heat, so I want gas heat most all the time. So which Thermostat and or items would be required for me to have total control of when or if the heat pump or furnace is give the command to operate. And if there are wrong or right heat pumps to get. My system is Goodman and it's been great. Looking at the GSX160601 and the CAPF4860C6 A coil. My furnace is a Goodman GMNT-120-5 92% LPG furnace. Suggestions from knowledgeable people have kept me alive so far so I am open, thanks, Ron

Very helpful information, my old train heat pump 4ton heat pump system lasted 20 years and was never as good as my 1st house with a train gas furnace for high heat. 2 years ago I switched to a Champion 2 stage 3.5 ton and the heat was better but still not up to par compared to gas. Now with your helpful info on the new nest thermostat and set at 70 degreese the heat is as good gas heat. More expensive but I don’t care when I’m cold.
