I had two of these. One died with the clicking after about 2 years. The other one lasted maybe 4 years before starting to click. I will never buy another Seagate hard drive again because of this. I may buy a Seagate SSD as there are no moving parts....

Ouch. But it's lived a nice long productive life. :-) I got lucky with my pair of Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 (ST3500320AS) drives - mine are still going strong after 9 years in 24-7 operation (NAS RAID 1). I admit I don't work the NAS overly hard so the drives while powered spend the vast majority of time spun down. And no worries, the NAS and drives are all being retired - strategy changed and now in need of something more then a simple document back up server. Given these drives had the nasty firmware lockup bug, I guess I got really lucky on a number of fronts with them.

I have the same drive and it started clicking just after a year or so. It still worked but I was afraid to keep using it. So I took it out and got a new drive. Just now I ordered an adapter to connect it to USB and hopefully get some of my old data off of it.

I have been able to get data off clicking drives by doing a sector by sector copy. Good luck!

My drive behaviour is very similar to yours, have you done anything to fix it?
@DavidRothstein6 жыл бұрын
No, it was part of a RAID and no data was lost. The drive was retired.

I have really sensitive ears and always have this weird dull ringing, but when I threw on my headphones to this song, I became calmer and more focused than I ever remember being. I love this and I've been playing this on repeat anywhere I can to get out of listening to everything. 💙💜 thank you!!

I am staying at a hostel and the guy in the bed next to me tends to spends half the night talking on the phone, giving a hacking laugh at least once every minute. The white noise is the only thing that keeps me sane (by keeping me from hearing him) so thank you very much for this!

Who else can hear: heavy rainfall, beads/Lego pieces pouring into a bag, frying some food, the jungle, water pipe burst, a waterfall, steam powered engines? I just sat here for 15 mins imagining all of those and it felt like 10 seconds went by.
