My dad and grandad had 22w 24l 28l and a 36 operating in the 60s 70s 80s and 90s. I was around the 22 24 and 28 but they had sold the 36 in early 80s. I work on a 33A Walker-neer and it’s a smooth drilling machine but I don’t think it’ll compare to a 28 or 36. Spudding and cable tool rigs is a dying breed. I’m 40 and there’s no one younger than me in my surrounding area I know that’ll run one.

They definitely don’t make them like that anymore. The old spudder rigs are hard to find let alone anyone who can run them anymore

I just love these old rigs. I grew up on a No.2 National Machine and Standard Rig that my grandfather used to drill gas wells in western Pennsylvania into late '50's !

I love running a 36 once it was stood up. Loved the fact you could reverse the jackshaft.

You're wasting too much dope. Do we want a dope shortage here in America????

I grew up on these old rigs. I ha ave worked every job shown here brings back lots of memories. the last time i seen one of these old rigs running I was running a old 28 bucyrus on work over drilling plugs cement and sand pumping. that was around 1993 and that was the end of a long era. they are still a few small rigs around drilling water wells but that too is giving way to technology.

The Fort Worth is set up at Frank Phillips' wild life preserve called woolaroc. There is also an operating power there. This was filmed in the late 90s

Haven't see that done on a Bucyrus machine since the 80's. My favorite is the Fort Worth segment. The red ford in the back ground of both clips appears to be a early to mid 90's. I assume this was not long ago.
