Love the large calendar idea to physically write something into key dates. For me writing something down on paper (rather than within a diary on a computer), and seeing that on a wall is a constant reminder of what needs to be done and when. I’ll definitely employ that one and makes so much sense. I find time can easily drift away unless you focus and have a point of reference to work towards. The older I get the faster it seems to go too!

Hey guys, what would you say were ‘realistic’ and yet still ambitious goals for 2025 if it really your first ‘proper’ year of trading? The thought of trying to plan the whole year is both exciting and yet quite difficult to do when you haven’t got ‘previous’ to go off!

Hi! This is really hard to answer as it depends on so many factors, such as your budget for advertising, your experience in marketing etc. In our first year we did £163,000 and for 6 months of that we were working together full time. But we did invest quite a lot into advertising. What I tend to say to people is if you can break even in your first year, that is very good, because you will then have a customer base to nurture and get repeat orders from in year 2 - which is where you'll make a profit.

They are both very different. A group is private and a page is public, so they can't be treated as the same thing. However, you need both, but you'll likely get more return from an engaged Facebook Group.

The accountancy aspect is incredibly hard but feels very unaffordable to hire someone for the role. I've also tried hiring people to take over selling at events and markets and that has been so difficult to find people wanting to work this kind of job :(

You just need a bookkeeper for probably 2 hours per week. Very affordable. Not only do you want people who 'want' this kind of job, but you need people who love it. They are going to be the face of your company when you're at these events. So therefore it should be difficult to find them, but when you do, and you will, you need to keep hold of them.

In Australia any items that influencers get needs to be declared as a cash amount as they see this as a payment. It’s become a bit of a tax minefield. I will have to do more research

Well done for admitting your own faults. These toxic work expectations are something many of us learn from working in previous environments that have that set up. Thankfully, before I started my business, I worked in a place that taught me many lessons, and I unlearned that way of working where you think everyone should have the same work ethic you have. But it's true; it's a very entrepreneurial trait.

Hey, all good thanks, I hope you are too. We did a bit, yes. We used Royal Mail integrated with Shipstation. This would automatically sort out the paperwork for export/import (based on how we set the products up). It's vital to get the weights and values correct. I'd certainly recommend getting software to sort this out for you so you don't have to worry about it. Shipstation integrated with your courier is ideal.

There's another home fragrance channel on here that does product reviews for smaller home fragrance businesses and comments on the labels, presentation etc. I think that would be a good series to watch on here that you could do exclusively with HFA members. That way it benefits you with more content but also benefits the member by getting constructive feedback on their business as well as putting them in the spotlight

I’m mainstream and am not experiencing the same issues as yourself… however, I just know I’ve done my time lol … I need out! The thing that stops me is finances (which I know is mad). The thought that, ‘what if’! I’m now only 2 days per week while we grow Wickwood - fingers crossed I’ll just ‘know’ when the time is right to release myself from the binds!!! Thanks again 🙏🏼

Love watching your videos guys :) been following your journey since about 2020. Love your podcast. Only tiny thing i would suggest as an improvement just my personal thought is, i dislike the split screen. Feels a disconnect when i/we are used to podcasts being around a table/sat on sofas ect in one frame. But that is my only dislike, i love the material you talk about and post :) Q, i know you now run the service based business but would you ever start another retail business? Q, Do you still make wax melts / candles ect for yourself or do you just buy them now? Sean :) x
