That Model 6 is very close to the 4 inch Model 8. The Model 8 was carried by Gary Powell when the Soviets shot down his U2 spy plane. I bet that knife is still in KGB headquarters.

Hi, I'm Dragonfly Knifeworks- Thanks very much for the positive review. A few clarifications: 1: I'm not a naval engineer- I'm a mechanical engineer that works for the US Public Health Service (and we wear a naval uniform). I have a couple patents related to arctic environments, but that's about it. 2: The finish on the handles is usually a layer of epoxy to seal the wood that is cured at room temperature, then it's sanded, finished, sanded, finished, etc with a "Tung Oil" finish. Usually I do a high gloss finish, which takes many, many coats of Tung oil. I've been experimenting with polyurethane (satin and high gloss), but there's something about a multi layer Tung oil finish that really brings out the wood grain. 3: The steels are typically hardened around 2000F and tempered between 350-400 deg F (depending on the steel) 4: The laser is an LED laser. 5: I typically design the knives using 3d modeling software because why not? 6: Working on improving the steel finishing- CPM S90V is super hard to do well, Magnacut is easier, but not easy, and everything else is Childs play in comparison. :) As you might expect, this has been an area I've been researching. Long story short, it's extremely expensive to finish ultra hard wearing steels well. Sincerely, Will

Been watching tests on KZbin. According to people's test micro techs HRC are lower than what they should be? I guess that's probably a number of other companies as well
@Northernknives4 күн бұрын
A lot of companies will post the TOP end of the range on the HRC and not the minimum their blades are coming out at.

You gotta be rich or brain-dead to pay $500 + for a f*ckin pocket knife that's not even worth $200. Also, the fake one is much more of an interesting conversation starter when you're being honest about it. In fact, all my buddies want one! 😃

soo, which one was is the fake? would have helped if they were identified and pointed out from the start. everything gets thrown together and moved around which made it even more confusing

How much is Benchmade paying you to trash the factory seconds being released by the real manufacture of several models of their knifes.

I say this with having 2 Taggedout styles that I purchaded for $24.00 and $20.00. Both are just as good as the $180.00 one I own.

I got a factory seconds one for a Lincoln, and it's just as good as the real one. At $160.00 cheaper, you can't go wrong, and believe it's a myth their made in the US.

N690 has two temper ranges. It can use secondary hardening in the higher temp range. As for the autoclave, its probably not going to be that high of temp to cure handle scales. And you'll likely do that process without the blade.

Do you guys ever think that perhaps Benchmade has knives actually manufactured in Taiwan? Odd that it's Bugout, 2 versions of Tagged Out, Claymore straight edge, along with two to three others that are being cloned and not everything they make.

That would indeed be a rather large scandal.

BENCHMADE REALLY NEEDS TO PRODUCE AN 'XL VERSION' OF THE FULL IMMUNITY! If it was a 3.5 to 4 inch blade with a full 4-finger grasp handle - that would be an awesome EDC blade! I love that they made it from CPM-M4 as well as the beautiful aluminum handle scales with diamond texture, so I would hope they would keep this. I was thinking they could call the XL version: "BENCHMADE FULL IMMUNITY - BOOSTER SHOT"! (Maybe even an XXL version and call it "Double-Boosted"!)

" We're here today to tell you why NOT to buy the knockoff".....Not sure you really achieved that. in fact just the opposite. You convinced me not to spend $535 vs $38 on the knockoff. You think I give a care about the rockwell hardness on a POCKET KNIFE!! As a pro chef, the only time rockwell matters to me is on legit Japanese Chef knives.

S30v is still an amazing steel and considering the size of the OM you’re not going to be using it for combat or splitting trees. Now for a larger knife you may have a valid point wanting something tougher but either way at the end of the day it’s about personal choice..
