To me, the biggest difference between Low Tech and High Tech all comes down to speed. In a Low Tech, the biggest con is "nothing happens fast" but the biggest pro is "nothing happens fast". I can leave my low tech with just a housesitter to feed my fish only for months on end. Power outages under a week won't likely crash it. Water changes are maybe once every few months. I add fertilizer as i think about it which is RARELY. In a High Tech tank, the pros are that everything happens fast (ie. fast growth, fast balancing with algae, etc). But the cons are that everything happens fast. CO2 issues can crash them in hours if not days. Fertilization miscalculation or just not thinking can crash everything quickly. Power failures more than a day mean big issues. So, I would say to me the biggest issue is speed.
@freshflowaquatics11 күн бұрын
Very true, I agree with everything you've said here. Speed really is the biggest difference between a high tech and low tech tank. Sounds like you keep both hi and low tech tanks eh? I definitely appreciate both types and enjoy the speed of the hi-tech and satisfaction that comes with the patience of growing out a low-tech tank.

Most of your water parameters look great. The only thing that is a little high is the pH for a betta. They prefer it to be from around 6-7. If you are able to mix in some RO water to get the pH lower, then that would be great. Just keep an eye on the mineral content of the water too, cause mixing half RO water is gonna cut everything in half - GH, KH TDS.
@freshflowaquatics11 күн бұрын
Forgot to answer about water changes. I'm a believer in water changes. I think that keeping your tank clean is a good way to keep your fish healthy.

@@freshflowaquatics thanks alot for your reply it means alot to me. People has made so many videos but never clarify about the parameter as they have the knowledge i don't know why they do that. Just want to know that kh and gh level should be there and will tannin increase kh and gh too it will. Thank you.
@freshflowaquatics11 күн бұрын
@@diwakar4457 Looks like I was a little off with the pH. My recomendation is get as close to that as you can with regards to GH and KH. That might raise your pH a bit, but as long as it's close to the below range you should be fine. Tannins will no raise the GH or KH. They should lower the pH ever so slightly. GH: 3-4 dGH (50-66.7 ppm) KH: 3-5 dKH (53.6- 89.4 ppm) pH: 6.5-7.5.

Do they eat Malaysian Trumpet snails? I just got a 20 gallon off of craigslists and I cleaned everything (tank, filters housing (put new filters in), lights, decorations) including the substrate and it was drained and yet a bunch of trumpet snails survived. lol. I have assassin snails in my other tanks to deal with any rogue bladder snails, but was thinking after I season this new tank I would add Kuhlis to handle the Trumpets. What do you think?
@freshflowaquatics14 күн бұрын
I definitely find a fair bit of small empty snail shells in my tank. I think that once snails reach a medium size the kuhlis will no longer go for them. I'm sorry to hear that your Java fern keeps dying. Did you use any liquid fertilizer in the aquarium? It could be as simple as missing one or two nutrients?
@calvinyoutube311614 күн бұрын
@ I do add liquid fertiliser from time to time. I think it’s a disease instead of malnutrition, the reason I suspect as such is the way the brown area seems to spread to adjacent leaves at roughly same region. Before this the Java fern was propagating really well with lots of baby ferns at the leaves tips.
