Hi RestlessColour, I love this simple idea. Could you please do a tutorial on how to build a light box for sand art? Would you just build an extra top section to contain and stop the sand from spilling over?

perhaps cutting the sides in half then angling them, you could double the walls making it sturdier. also what about a base?

I love the idea of putting the tracing paper between the glass. However, on the top fitting the box, it appears as though it doesn't sit down over the box but on top of it. I would imagine cutting the sides slightly shorter would solve this problem. I also don't like the idea of placing a light onto the surface below. I've seen several that use LED strip lights but then of course you have to solder and get power to them, but it shows how. Nice idea overall though. Thanks for sharing.

I love this. I had a huge light proofing box years ago and I was stupid and sold it. Now I wish I had it and this gives me some good ideas although I could use my screen exposure unit's yellow proofing lights. But it has clear glass. The white or frosted glass is best for proofing negatives and photographic films. Also great for tracing ;) Come get some Catspit~!

an alternative to using lamp lights within are L.E.D. Flashlight miniatures or a wide face L.E.D Flash Light. They will not get hot like a lamp light and if the usage of a lamp light is applied, use a laptop fan platform under it to keep it cooled down and add vent holes to the lower back area of the box to vent the heat.

Hello, Thankyou for sharing, what a great idea, i am looking for a light box idea suited to placing light craft card over it for tracing, how would i go with the glass top, would it get too hot for the cardstock and maybe my hands? Please what type of bulb and watt do you recommend, thanks heaps, have a safe and happy new year 2016.

Can the glass sustain the weight of your arm? The glass i got from a picture frame is quite thin, though.
