I still remember my basic encampment. The moment those van doors opened the staff were shouting we were rushing out and the most formative week of my life so far began! It was hard but it was worth every drop of blood, sweat and tears I spent because I came out a stronger and more confident person. Bring back hard encampments. We can handle it.

It had to have be infinitely better than California wing encampment- they were so desperate to make it as big as possible they ruined it. Heck, if things were not already so stressful we would have sued them.

That’s awesome! Back in the day I was the Cadet Commander for Byrd Field Cadet Squadron. Our best encampment was at Seymour Johnson AFB which was joint SAC/TAC at that time with B52’s, KC135’s, and F4 Phantoms. I have a lot of photos from it. We landed in a C130 which I thought was very loud, and something on the plane kept banging the whole trip LOL! When we got out on the tarmac the air strip was buzzed by four F16’s which I imagine may or maybe wasn’t planned. We mainly had a drill team, and practiced finding the transponders for a simulated downed plane. I wish we had a confidence course these cadets had! We never rapelled either. I was a DSO and I will never forget the fun and memories from this. We had so many fire drills. The Blackhawk ride was so much fun. This was my second and last Encampment. I will miss it so much.

The fire drills weren't actually drills... the fire alarm went off twice in the female barracks, once because they made chlorine gas by mixing bleach and ammonia, and once because they tried to dust everything instead of just sweeping
