I use the weight that gives me a good stretch and I can get 10 to 12 reps before feeling fatigued. I've worked my way up to doing flys at 65 pounds in each hand. There's no reason NOT to go up to heavier weights if you can easily handle the lighter weights. More resistance gives more results. If 12 reps is easy, add 5 pounds and see what happens. Keep raising the weight until 12 reps is hard. Now you're in the right working weight range. Incidentally I'm 59 years old.

that means your spinal erectors are getting stressed quite a bit, which is gonna make em bigger. as long as your back doesnt curve, you should be fine
