Marco Pantani was my Hero. That Small skinny guy when he decided that was enough,nobody could get him. In 1995 Marco Pantani on the Alpe D'Huez was just Sublime and in 37 minutes and 21 bends after won the race in one of the Greatest Cycling Performances of all time.

They are NOT monuments, they are CLASSICS. There were 7 not 5. Milan SanRemo, Ghent Wevelghem, Tour Of Flanders, Paris Roubaix, Liege Bastogne Liege, Tour Of Lombardy, Paris Tours. Roger never won all, Eddy won 6 of the 7, only The Emperor, Rik Van Looy won them all. Actually there were 8 classics, but sadly Bordeaux paris went defunct. Lets get our facts correct shall we!!!!

I would argue that Adam Yates is the best climber. If we do a 50k climbing TT, Adam wins it EVERYTIME!

This story about Merckx being hated because he switched languages from Flemish to French are a lot of hogwash. Merckx probably had more Flemish fans than he had "enemies" (not really enemies, just fans of other racers like Van Looy, Van Steenbergen, etc.). There is another, much darker story that plays in this. It has all to do with his place of birth, Meensel-Kiezegem, and what happened there shortly after the liberation of the German occupation, when "accounts were settled" between collaborationists (real ones and alleged ones) and resistance people (real ones and mostly false ones). The Merckx family simply fled this toxic (civil war-like) environment and went to Wemmel which is still Flemish Brabant, but where French prevailed as thge common language.

The name of the person who punched Eddy is Nello Breton, he was a baker in Desertines near Montluçon. Nello was born in 1920 in Pétange, Luxemburg and died in 2007 in Desertines at the age of 86 year. He is said to be distantly related to Bernard Thevenet who won the Tour that year.

This is the start of the epocha,mediocre riders Indurain, Bugno and Chiapucci go on the juice and kill Lemond, Fignon and Mottet. Indurain was obviously on the juice in 1990 but riding for Delgado.

The thing about Merckx was ability and willingness to do his own work. And oh yeah, he could do it all. I’ve really liked some riders since that era, most notably Indurain and Contador, but haven’t seen another capable of so much. Pogi has many of the same abilities but times have changed and it now requires so much focus and preparation for TDF. Sadly doping means that nothing may be as it seems.

Beating Hinault by 10 minutes and losing to Lemond by a mere 8 aerodynamically-doped (unfair, really) seconds...Fignon is arguably the greatest cyclist that almost was.

I'm sorry, but the music you put in the first couple minutes completely ruined your video for me. Not only is it pretty stereotypical and racist-ish, but it's also completely out of context: that was your typical southern Italian popular music you'd hear when the patron saint is celebrated, there's zero sense in putting it on a video about sports, or would you use some Western Movie music whenever you make about Lance Armstrong, just because he's Texan? And that's not even taking into account the fact Bartali was from Tuscany, not Southern Italy, so the music you put in your video sounded more like a Western music played in a movie scene set in New York City. Would you find that appropriate?

Of the riders mentioned in this video, Heras was clearly the best climber. Although Bassos level in 2006 was almost the highest peak of any of the riders mentioned in the video.

This is my favourite stage ever. I must say I'm biased, because I've been a fan of the team since the early Rabobank years in the '90's, but this stage was epic. Even this long summary (nice video!) misses so many great moments, like the Van Aert taxi service. This is the only stage I'm rewatching in it's full like once a year.

hahaha what are you talking about merckx the enemy, first off all he speaks Flemisch like a native there are many dialects in Belgium, secondo they loved them for Maertens and De Vlaeminck he is the greatest. And that he grow up in Brussels but was born in Kiezel meenegem was never a issue, you don't now anything about koers.
@phillarsson8253
@phillarsson8253 3 ай бұрын
Mind you: what this man says at the start of this video is absolutely not how it's been translated in the subs. What he actually shouts out towards Roger De Vlaeminck are these words freely translated in English (and don't bother to argue: I'm from Belgium (West-Flanders) myself so I do kinda know the lingo 😛): "Roger De Vlaeminck gets the Tour de Flandres on a plate,! You coward! You insolent!" Other than that: you're talking complete "bull" about everybody in Flanders automatically being 'against Merckx'. I live in Flanders and lots of folks that I know (amongst my own late dad) were huge fans of Merckx. Eddy was just at the end of his career but wanted to show himself one more time. Deep inside he knew he wouldn't stand a chance against De Vlaeminck or Maertens. Certainly Maertens was at his peak in 76 and 77. Roger De Vlaeminck afterwards refused to pay the dues for the deal he had set op with Freddy to get him to win the race. There's a museum in Oudenaarde fully dedicated to the Tour De Flandres where there's a line of bricks at the window, each of them has the winner of each year carved in it. On the brick of 1977 it says: "Freddy Maertens, moral winner".

The commentary is smooth, but all wrong. You got most of the facts wrong. You describe Freddy Maertens as a tall flemish rider. He is not tall, he is actually quite short, and many other things you quote are wrong.

Quels souvenirs!!
