If you don't see "Unity Mod" when you search it, just rename the folders from "C#" to "CSharp" and VS2022 should read it. Credits to @smilywhowho4790 for solution.

Is it possible to mod the textures by giving them a height map? Playing the game in VR (Amazing!) the terrain textures look really flat.

Hello! The Subnautica games use a heaily customised shader, so it's quite challenging to tweak surface textures. The games don't use the Unity Terrain system either, which makes changing that aspect even more difficult. Nothing is impossible, though, and I'm sure with some tweaking it could be done. Worth submitted to the mod-ideas channel on the Subnautica modding Discord!

Oh god thank you. Its really works and so simple. Tested on game Blackthorn Arena by harmony patch. Tried a lot of another videos by creating mods for unity from youtube, they were more complicated and did not worked. Thank you for your godly templates.

Make sure you're using the latest version of the game. BepInEx mods only work on the latest "V2" version of the game.

Thanks for actually creating a detailed guide for people to create their own mods. From what little I know, it looks like a month after you made this video, a sequel to QModManager has been released called Nautilus. I assume it will likely change or improve how modding will function in Subnautica 2.0? I barely know how to code C# yet, so most of what I've been looking at has only been trying to familiarize myself with everything.

Very good intro, going to try this the other night. Interested in my a mod that tackles the environment, ai because its where I feel subnautica could do with a bit more randomness. On multiple playthroughs its a bit too predictable and would be nice to have more diversity in areas. Have substantial coding background but was a bit at a loss how to start and unity isnt fantastic.

A few things I noticed that I'd do different if it were me. The ocean water seems like it should be calmer based on the current weather. It would be nice if the paths had stuff around them or on them. Like maybe rocks or something. The stream going down that mountain looks unnatural. If you had cliffs with waterwalls coming down it would look better I think. Like a pool of water, a cliff, a waterfall, and then a pool of water at the bottom that goes out into a small stream. You can clearly see trees popping in. At a distance I'd use LOD's with an impostor at the lowest level. You have an NPC in that house that doesn't seem to interact. I'd make it interactive. Also lower or mute the outdoors SFX while inside a house.

Hey! The templates should work fine for any Unity game, with a bit of tweaking of the references once you've created your project.

I don't see why mods wouldn't work on the MS Store version of the games. I've only ever tried on the Steam versions, so can't confirm.

The unity mod template doesn't show up for me in VS Community 2022 - I confirmed via the options that the template path is the same as where they're extracted, and I see the template zip files there... not sure what's up ;/

I copied them into the %ProgramFiles% location for VS and that allowed them to show up, so no idea why the user-specified ones weren't working but good enough.

Looks great!! So many gameplay mechanics working well together :) I felt you may need to work on the lighting though, seems too dark sometimes. Did you try using Post Processing effects?

Thank you for the kind words and feedback! Ah, man, lighting in HDRP is something I'm still very much trying to get my head around! The "dark and foreboding" atmosphere is intentional, but agree it's a bit much - especially in the interior scenes. I have quite a bit of Post Processing volumes and Global and Local volumes that all combine. It's a real art form, lighting, and it'll take me a while to get it just right.
