Nothing wrong with shopping for what you desire. A big issue in the adopt don’t shop bs is… allergies. Hypoallergenic animals are usually exclusively through breeders, quite pricey, and in demand. Those who have allergies deserve to own animals just like the rest of us and shouldn’t be shamed because they have to source their pets through breeders and don’t have the option to pop down to the shelter and pick up a poodle or golden doodle or sphinx cat etc

I know this video is so old but I finally have a little robo and he is the most adorable, smart, intelligent little guy ever. I basically kind of call him my ghost hamster cuz you really don't see him too much and I put him in a certain position when I do handle him which is between three fingers. He's comfy but all this is very true. He could care less about being handled. He just love his space. His tunnels and I do see him on his wheel. He'll acknowledge you and that's that. So definitely have to be patient cuz he has definitely taught me some patience. I wish I saw this video earlier but I also wish it was more update but this is exactly how my little Oliver is. I love him

I’m literally getting dog piled on (no pun intended) because I was defending a girl for ADOPTING a purebred from a shelter. The girl literally did exactly what adopt don’t shop people want and they still scolded her and called her a bad person! I literally am fostering a purebred snowshoe rn and these people were saying cats like my foster don’t deserve to be sought after or adopted bc they’re rare and regular cats need home more then they do apparently? It’s deranged. I am being ratioed tho and they’re making me feel like I’m the lunatic. It’s very annoying. Adopt no shop people just hate purebred animals and even when you rescue them they throw a b!tch fit so I don’t believe any of them actually care about animals like they claim to

I mean to be fair as far as the spouse thing goes, people change. I used to love dogs and have dogs but they have since passed on and I no longer have any interest in living with them. That was 12 years ago and I’m still with the same person. If she wanted to get another dog it would be a massive problem for me. By the same token, I understand you don’t want kids but many people do- usually years into a relationship - things change over time and the role of pets in your life will change when you get pregnant (can’t clean the cat boxes when you are pregnant). It’s not really realistic to just assume your partner’s (or family’s) view on pets won’t change over a decade or two (many animals now live 18-20 years due to better veterinary practices). I love animals and have had many over the years but there is an opportunity cost as far as how money and time are spent, and living space is used. I can see how someone’s attitude about these factors will change over a lifetime.

I've had six cavies ove the past 20+ years. Some had rosettes, and some had very unique markings. One wee guy named Rustee was most orange and had a white heart on top of his head. So the long fur guinea pigs are Peruvian? I did have one named Bilbo. He had a Flock of Seagulls furdo.

my thought is that it is none of people's business where I get my animal. If someone is inclined to make quick judgements about me, my life, and situation based on me buying a dog from a good breeder, then I generally wouldn't want to be around them as a person anyways bahaha

At the time I worked at a pet shop, there was a robo there one of my coworkers had named Tolstoy, classic 'not particularly acclimated to humans' little ball of energy, hair and violence. I genuinely preferred feeding the argus monitor the owner kept as a display animal to feeding Tolstoy, because I at least could tell where the big bitey lizard was going to come at me from.

i'm planning on rescuing a robo from a pet store, and this video really helped<3 he lives in a 30x10x15 (cm) wire cage with pine bedding that doesn't even cover the floor, and he doesn't have anywhere to hide, enrichment, sand, or a wheel. I'm still preparing because this is probably an impulse buy, but i just need to get him out of there.

I just became the owner of 3 robos today,….someone brought them to me because their daughter was gonna set them free or flush them…they’re 3 sisters that have been living together in a filthy plastic crittertrail cage with a tall tube attachment with a wheel on top, being held together with old bandaids…. I’ve always kept groups of mice and currently have 1 syrian in a 40 gallon long tank..i’ve never had robos because i knew they were a little different and now i suddenly have 3…they seem to get along well enough, sleeping together up in the wheel and they’re not afraid of me either. But i can see tension between them…I don’t even know how old they are…

Why not give them something so they can trim the nails themselves? You can't exactly expect to both keep a Robo relaxed and also forcibly grab them and trim their nails, clean their glands whenever needed.
