I built a beautiful model 28 for Captain Tim in Queens of the " Flying Tigers " to replace theirs that had been ruined by duty on 911. Built a siren in Fresno California for FD in Queens NY. It was an huge honor ❤

Fishers are excellent and quiet anvils. I believe in 1900 they were around 15 cents per pound, so you paid 1900 prices! Unbelievable deal

Fisher & Norris anvils are GREAT !!! But they are known as a city anvil , because they lack that high pitch ping , ping . This is because the company developed a new way of adding the face plate , and it wasn’t a loud sound that kept the neighbors up all night that lived near the smitty’s shop , hence the name “City Anvil “! The bolt lugs at the feet of your anvil was something else the company started about 1892 , and yes they are GREAT !! This is one of many reasons that the U.S. military chose the Fisher & Norris anvil company as their sole supplier of anvils all the way through W.W.2 ! These anvils were made in Trenton N.J. , and the factory is still there , even though they no longer produce this fine U.S. made product , they are however , now opened as a “ museum “ , with daily tours !!! Now , I’m not an expert in anyway on these old Fisher anvils , but I will say , I am the PROUD owner of a 1892 , 220 lbs . Fisher & Norris , and yes I beat the hell out of the ol’ girl everyday and she just keeps getting better , love the ol’ girl to death and will never part with her !! So with all that said , keep heatin ‘ and beatin ‘ that old Fisher will take it and love it !

I got a free 200 lb anvil a few years back. Very old one, but it was a family heirloom I guess. My grandfather used it to sharpen his well drilling bits long ago, my uncle gave it to me when he didn't need it any more. My brother and I use it in forging and general metal work. I do home foundry as well.

What good is a rebound test with a hammer? You are pounding on piece of hot ass metal when you are using the anvil so bounce is irrelevant. Just my scientific opinion and the ball bearing test seems ridiculous too.No real point to either test really because it means nothing. My guess you have been on too many anvil /black smithing forums.
@obamagamer5531
@obamagamer5531 5 жыл бұрын
richard Turk The purpose of a rebound test is to gauge how well the energy you put into the swing of the hammer transfers into the workpiece. An anvil with a low rebound will absorb more force that you put into your swing than an anvil with good rebound.
@sparky6086
@sparky6086 3 жыл бұрын
The rebound pushes on the back of the piece resulting from the same blow as the hit the front of the piece, so the less dissipated the energy is, the more rebound there is, so more force is applied to the piece. It ends up being somewhat "squeezed" it's a more efficient use of energy and so is less tiring to the blacksmith. One of the main reasons for doing the rebound test, is to check and see if the anvil is cracked, has hollow places, or is otherwise damaged. If there's too much damage, rather than a ring, the sound will be dampened. ...You "scientists" rarely account for all the factors. That's why; you're easily fooled.

I know some commenters appreciate you going out in the storm. Here's something to think about. You go out there driving around in flood waters and you risk getting caught in water, a hole in the road you can't see, etc. Then you call 9-1-1 for help. Then first responders have to risk physical injury or death to come out and rescue your butt. That's not fair to them and their families. I suggest you stay home or somewhere safe next time. You've really got no business being out there. I was a police officer and have two brothers who were firefighters. Police officers, firefighters and National Guardsmen and women have died because they HAD to be out in it. And you were out just exploring. That's selfish.

Robert Bauer Police, Fire, Military, and “women” as you put it, are all PAID to do a job. They knew the risks and were at peace with the risks when took the oath. Yes, they will have to help people doing dumb things- but that goes with job. Go find somewhere else to cry a river. Do the job or go be vacuum salesman.
