There’s an interesting aspect that you’re touching on regarding the job of an organiser. I’m still consuming your body of work but it’d be pretty cool to see a guide on the jobs of an organiser (besides organising the event and making sure that there’s music and a space for dance).

Excellent! Wish they were more creative with how they incorporated the hands in couple position - I like that this couple delayed a bit, they were having a nice moment and we were all enthralled

Interested in the structure of the competition? Why the two square rules in the beginning? Why do they start with no hands?

Everyone here is so good! Wow. His style feels like "kizomba moderna" - in between urban and traditional kiz. Lots of it in Mozambique

I don’t like most people i meet in the Bachata, Salsa, Kizomba community. Most of them are toxic so it’s dangerous territory every time i go dance. It takes time to find people you enjoy dancing with. You have to keep a low profile and just detach yourself from the drama that goes on. It’s only as toxic as you let it be. Just go to dance, then leave.

We in Angola 🇦🇴 call it Kizomba, for example capoeira martial art dance, known as Brazilian 🇧🇷 martial art, is actually started in Angola 🇦🇴, some people don't know that, but we're very proud of the Brazilians to continue the legacy of the Angola capoeira. Cos in Angola 🇦🇴 we no longer do it as it used to do in the slave's time. But yh Angola have many many different traditional dances, like, Ku duro, kizomba Tarraxinha, semba and many others. Angola is a African country very rich in oil and Diamonds, for example, one of the most rare diamonds the UK 🇬🇧 have, is from Angola 🇦🇴. This just a little things about Angola but there is more, you can learn from Angola trough goggle or youtu.be. Love and peace to you. One love

You say that kizomba is not supposed to impress the partner nor the watches. Who then are you supposed to impress? People who walk their dog in the park in the next town over?

I have put in years of daily practice, workshops, lessons, training, teacher training (with Nelson Campos too❤️🎶) and festivals. I work hard at building our community, attending and promoting everyone’s events, and I don’t teach (a lot) because I feel after years learning from SO many internationals, I still want to continue teacher training. Unlike some people in my community who teach kizomba, learned after 10 lessons and KZbin (I am serious here!!) or have done much less work than I have. I am not an unattractive person, but I find being in my mid-50s as a woman REALLY limits my opportunities! I do believe if I were in my twenties or thirties right now, that things would be completely different for me. Less male teachers choose to work with me based on image. This is really sad. I believe in quality, 100%, but I wonder if it’s possible to compete with younger, prettier dance students. I have seen these women have advantages they haven’t earned and I have had to stand back and watch or do a class where I have the knowledge and they do not. I definitely work on my appearance to take advantage of any opportunities but i find it to be an ageist community in many ways. What advice do have to offer?

I started dance late in life, and the biggest struggle was adjusting to the world and culture of dance. A lot of things that I was not expecting :0 I wish people spoke more on these things but they're so scared theyll never work again and it's sad :( like out of all the performing arts, I feel like dance is the most RESISTANT to innovation somehow. Not in the sense of the work itself but the culture. Like I used to want to be a designer before dance (and that world has its issues of course) but it feels like that sort of innovation happened faster in the design world somehow.

I am glad to see this, I had a very rough time in my dance BFA program and almost quit because of it :0 The staff encouraged it. I openly criticized having a uniform policy in college, and the lack of artistic freedom on a daily basis. I was in my senior year stuck in the freshman ballet class due to spite, after I debated with the teacher in it after class. They would direct choreographers away from me during auditions 🙃😭 You are RIGHT sir.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that foolishness! Glad you didn't quit though, as the only person who can truly stop your shine is YOU!
