Love my UB804! It has a sound all of it's own that is very different than an electric, and somewhat close to an upright. Yet, the sting length allows the use of standard bass strings. Also, it is almost as transportable as a regular electric bass. That is one issue with a double bass, the size. I play mainly on Electric Bass, but there are some songs I just have to use the EUB on if I want the right sound and feel.

I always love unboxing stuff from Sweetwater... And same on the candy... bit-o-honey is the best! My current rig (which I only use for home practice... lol) is a Hartke TX300 and a 210XL.

I got one and I love it! Full-time upright bass player in the past, but due to sickness do not any longer have the strength to play a real one for long. This thing is the perfect solution to my issue. The shortest scale makes the fingering easier and the action is perfect for someone with reduced strength.

Hi, Mark. I'm glad you found a way to keep playing. This bass is fun and inspiring. Every time I try a tune with it I find my approach is totally different than it would be on the upright or regular electric fretless. Have a good weekend!

People “listen with their eyes”. They see something that’s vertical, like a double bass, rather than horizontal like a bass guitar, and they think “ooh, JAZZ…..”
@MaineBassGuy6 ай бұрын
I don't think you're wrong. I played with a cat for years who was adamant that I play the old doghouse even though I found it very challenging. He knew I wasn't that strong on the instrument but thought the proper aesthetic was more important than being able to play more confidently. Video killed the radio star.

BRAD, How satisfied are you with ita upright sound, did the foam make a difference? I had Stagg EUB that sounded better than my current NS Design WAv 5, which takes some more ticuh to get ti close to an upright sound than the former. What is your take on the IBANEZ product?
@MaineBassGuy10 ай бұрын
It's definitely not the real thing, but it works with a mute in the band setting. I think in a real jazz trio it would not have enough tonal character to hold up.

You could use the UB804 (and UB805 which is the 5 String Version) in Concert Band too because it's a good best of both worlds, you can still play w/ a Bow & it's Portable like the Bass Guitar.
@RockStarOscarStern63411 ай бұрын
There's a 5 String Version too called UB805. I don't think they make a Bow designed for this Bass, but you can use your favorite Double Bass Bow. This is based on the very 1st Electric Bass which was a Fretless Bass & it was basically a Scaled Down Electrified Upright Bass morphed into the Shape of a Guitar.
