This melody, titled “Beech Spring” was later used for a church hymn “Come Ye Sinners. The tune dates back to the mid 18th century. It was published in a shape note hymnal called The Sacred Harp. I wish that PBS would run the Lewis and Clark doc again. I’ve just finished the Ken Burns National Parks opus and enjoyed Peter Ostroushko’s music on that series very much.
