I have 2 Banks Vision 3 model blinds: one is a 2020 model the other is a new 2024 unit. Based on 4 + seasons of use may comments are: 1) the shape, size and construction quality of both units is excellent. 2) I am 5'8" and 160 pounds...the stand is very small for use of a vertical bow. For safety sake I need to get the arrow outside the window frame which can create movement and spooks animals. 3) the newer unit has 2 additional smaller windows that substantially improves all around visability.4) A product improvement would be the addition of "eyebrow" vision windows around the top rim of the unit. If a hunter stands up to stretch, etc it is impossible to look out any of the shooting windows without bending over like a hunchback to do so. 5) The addition of the entrance platform is a worthwhile expense and makes entry to the blind easier and a good deal safer than trying to transition from a top step directly into the blind itself....a bit of a pain to install but worth it.

Cool video. My takeaway - you've got an incredibly juicy deer hunting property. Tons of cover, and lots of nice smallish sized ag plots. My other takeaway is that you have way too many plans and projects on the go. The best thing you can do, IMHO, is to spend less time tinkering and just set up dynamite spots (not permanent stands) that you can bounce around between. Keep the ag land - you aren't short on cover, and by the looks of it neither is the neighbourhood. What you want is to have the best food in the neighbourhood (and keep all your open areas in food) and to have the least pressure/human activity on your place in the neighbourhood. The deer will naturally gravitate to it if following this advice. Shrub and tree plantings are great to do in cover-limited areas, but in an area such as yours it's not going to make a smidgin of difference planting dogwood shrubs that the deer will just devour. Instead, focus on some small micro plantings of conifers in key areas that you want thick and good late season thermal cover. Get a farmer to plant 1/2 the land in corn and the other half in soybeans and alternate if that is the crop rotation in the area. Then adjust where you hunt depending on where the activity is in a given year. Ideally, you'd have a field or two (say 10 acres) that are just deer food fields (e.g., fall greens like peas and radish) every year. Tinkering less, hunting smarter, having good and plentiful food, and having bulletproof access will do more wonders for quality hunting and growing old deer than any other activity you could do. All this is of course just my opinion. Last opinion - sell all your permanent blinds and get a tree saddle and adapt to changes in deer use of your land over the season and across seasons. I'm sure all of this will combine to yield very pleasant results.

Thank you for all of this! Great insights, feedback and suggestions!!!! EXACTLY what I was hoping for and I hope others can take your advice and apply it too! I will! @@B.E.Outdoors-ud1te You're welcome. I know because I speak from experience - I tinker too much too haha. But I also do it because I love doing little projects and learning by doing. I know it's also probably hurt me. We are in a real low deer situation in my area, so the way a reason it is that I'm not screwing much up when there isn't a deer in the neighbourhood. And I at least get to enjoy my property planting fruit trees, etc. etc. It looks like you've got a wonderful and amazing property. I'm sure you could do very well hunting and enjoy your land and projects and find the right balance for you. In the end, it's not just about shooting big deer. We want to enjoy time in the great outdoors too in the off-season :) Happy hunting!

@B.E.Outdoors-ud1te
@B.E.Outdoors-ud1te 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question! Apple trees are finicky! Believe it or not I wanted to turn my fields into an orchard and so I contacted a ton of apple orchards- they told me I better make sure apple trees grow in my soil before I do that! So I’d baby it and give it some fertilizer but the best advice I can give you is to experiment and find a variety that just does well on its own- for me that’s Siberian crab apple- but I’m planting those for deer. Also remember most apple trees need to be pollinated by a different second apple tree.

What does you consider logged hard? Down to 15 inches or 12 inches?
@B.E.Outdoors-ud1te
@B.E.Outdoors-ud1te 7 ай бұрын
I told the loggers how much canopy I wanted removed and left the tree size to them. I told them to take ALL the poplars for a couple of reason-1. They regenerate and provide awesome browse and cover, and 2. They were all of a size they needed to go, they get too big and they start to break off and become essentially worthless. Also told them to take all the basswood they wanted for the same reason- but I do love basswood for hiding treestands bc they grow in clumps. Then told them to take all hard maple that were of size and I’d say that would be 15” or up in diameter if not a little more. Told them to leave all white oaks that weren’t damaged or split and then log the red oaks accordingly. Long answer but I told them by different sections to leave more or less canopy based on all these things. Thank you for the question and support of my channel!! VERY MUCH appreciated!

I recommend finding a forester. We used one. He put it out for bid with 15 loggers he had experience with. We ended up getting double the amount that we would’ve gotten with my first choice. That’s with his cost taken out. He took care of dealing with the town, state , and abutters. If I had issues he dealt with the loggers. He spent several hours with me prior to us hiring him. He was worth his cost. I’d also recommend seeing the work of the logger you hire before you make the decision to cut so you know in advance what their work looks like.

Blank canvas for sure I think the big thing is undetected access to your stand. I watch the same guys you do. This could become a doe factory too easy. Big open hardwood not good habitat. You don't want to pull every deer for a mile at night and have them gone at daylight.

I’d thin it out in spots and do it at random to break up the rows - rows are bad bc predators can see right down them- so take out pines in an irregular shape, let the sunlight in and it will brush up quick! Thank you for your question, and your support of my channel! VERY much appreciated!

A few things, I noticed from your video. That, I might have done differently. I'm not an expert, so I might be offering bad advice. Some bends and turns in your trails might be helpful. Maybe some slight bends and turns so deer feel more comfortable using the trails during daylight. The area with the house would be a good place for you to blow your scent back into. But once the oak trees start producing acorns, i feel your access is going to have random deer feeding on acorns. This might not be great for deer free access, in my opinion. I have problems seeing how even the pros design projects and I often wonder what winds might work for different stand locations. I think your video was one of the best I have seen. I enjoyed the drone footage and how you said we are here. Then you panned out and explained deer bed here. Your video was easy to follow. Good job.
