How do you do this so that the rule sticks in a pivot table? I've applied this and it works but every time the pivot table opens up or refreshes the rule "applies to" gets changed or won't stick.

0:59 a word of advice: this way of applying filter is only good when you have 100% guaranteed correct data set. If your data set contains fully empty rows - it will set the filter to partial set, not to mention if the data set is copied form other file (txt, CSV etc) thiis method can caose excel to select more rows / columns then the set actually has. So best way is to go to the Top Left cell of your data set and with CTRL+Shift+Arrows select the correct set size and then use CTRL+Shift+L to apply filters. Note this is on English - en-US language settings. Iff you change excel language your shortcuts may vary, just press alt and follow the letters on the ribbon in such case.

hi, there is a function called: Formulatext that displays the formula in selected cells. Not to mention you have also DateDif function in excel where you can specify days, months, years of difference

at the end, you could also add Lambda function and pass the range to it, so you wont have manualy resize it everytime

Louis, how can I solve for n on this in excel for infinite series? Value= CF1/(1+i)^1+CF2/(1+i)^2+...+CFn/(1+i)^n where n is time periods from 1 to infinity?

I assume you are trying to make a discounted cashflow (DCF) financial model? Usually you don't model until infinity, but only the next 5 years and then you take a terminal value. Might look into making a video specifically on how to construct a DCF model in Excel. In your case you would need to use the Solver Excel add-in to find the number of periods where your discounted cashflows equal a certain value.

Have you written something in the VBA box? It is important that you start the VBA code with Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)

@@LouisDeconinck I have tried this in parallels which is a software which allows windows to be used in a Mac. I used excel in the windows OS and then then the Via works, But the cells light up with a lag, and this is also true with other windows users. The cells highlighting is there but there is a lag time in lighting up.

Will be trying this out today. But, thanks for sharing such a great video. Will be watching for more. i always wondered why microsoft hasn't added this to excel as a default function.

That's indeed possible when using VBA, I think undo might also be impacted. I don't really know a way around this unfortunately.

just do the first two manually and press CTRL+E for the rest to be done with flash fill However, this video is invaluable because it takes care of changes to in the data and dynamically change the required data to extract.

That's a very good suggestion indeed. However, I have found flash fill to be a bit unreliable at times, so knowing how to solve the problem using formulas is definitely a bonus.
