Unfortunately overhead water tank has been demolished even though it was sitting on steel RSJ support beams.

They don't make special rails for curves. They just take regular rails and bend them on site.

just facepalm yourself...thermite welding IS more expensive but you can't prestress a rail before it is arc welded and therefore not a good idea when used on high speed rail or when the rail has to carry a current. Arc welding is no safer than thermite welding but it is NOT faster when welding rails together with little to no inclusions
@dtiydr
@dtiydr 11 жыл бұрын
So you mean hand welding is faster then buttwelding a railroadtrack? I wonder who lacks common sense and logic thinking here because it sure as hell ain´t me. :D
@emutiny
@emutiny 11 жыл бұрын
you seem to be missing the fact that traditional welding is cheaper, faster, more easily controlled, safer, and all around easier. You seem to lack any trace of logic. You should try some critical thinking exercises.

I find it extremely unlikely that someone would weld that with a stick no matter where they would be..

i find it highly unlikely that any "thermite" welds are used. Unless its the dead of winter in the middle of nowhere.

Very interesting! It's good to hear that the museum at Glenreagh is still reclaiming trackage. I remember a few years ago (six or seven I think) when we lived at the scout camp, Camp Eagle-Eye (just before Glenreagh), the trackage was relatively short. I wish we could reclaim the trackage at the Cooma Monaro Heritage Railway. The Chakola bridge needs replacement and the trackage after Cooma has been ripped up.

It's such a pity that the efforts to restore the Dorrigo branch line has been left to 'rot' and fester since the mid-80s. The idea has such potential, but the Dorrigo collection is now just rusting away and it's likely that the project will never see a solution.
