I don't really grill but this was easy to carry and bring with me camping as a backup in case kzbin.infoUgkxTAV04Wwc8vZvciP7ycqR1S4raCS0TnUc I couldn't get a fire going. In my opinion it is better to bring a charcoal grill instead of a gas grill as a backup because if it rains or the leaves around are still damp from a recent rain; you can use the charcoal to help your fire keep going even though a gas grill is easier to temp control with. Overall, pleased with my purchase.

How is it grilling some burgers or some ground beef on cast iron skillet? Does it burn through pellets faster if left open to stir up the ground beef? Looking to get this or tailgater for balcony of my apartment

I have owned the Scout, Ranger, and GMG Davy Crockett. The Scout is the worst Traeger I’ve owned. It doesn’t listen to the set temp haha. It’s pretty much the same size as a Ranger but the pro controller doesn’t work for how small the grill space is. The Ranger is the best for its size and how well it maintains temp. I was very impressed by the ARC controller and mine never fluctuated more than ten degrees. The Davy Crockett is really great for smoke but it is heavy and not so portable as the Ranger. The Crockett is also DC powered and you can hook up a car battery without having an inverter. Sharing this info for people considering these models. I didn’t have any info when I first bought the scout and made a mistake.

Was the cook space sufficient for a couple? Doesn’t look big enough to meal prep or handful group of ppl, but big enough to cook for 1 or two meals… considering the tailgater for this reason. But like the smaller portability of this ranger

Kiyani with Traeger support told me that both the Ranger and Scout have the 25 degree temp variance. When I asked why they would have different increments (5 vs 25) if the temp swings were the same, she said that's 'just how the grills were tested and manufactured.' Has anyone else been told this by Traeger?
@jasonreed7608
@jasonreed7608 2 жыл бұрын
Yea Traeger says that for all their products including the D2 controllers. I think it’s just a ball park statement to keep consumers happy. My arc controllers runs +\- 5 and my D2 is running +\- 15. I wouldn’t worry about having temp swings that are under 25 degree variance though. Controllers that swing produce more smoke but controllers that keep temps (PID) to the temp do not produce as much smoke. Traditional smokers fluctuate a 100 degrees if you aren’t living by the cook so it’s alright if a pellet grill fluctuates a little since it’s normal during traditional smokes

I don't think this is cooked, brother. Probably doesn't matter. I think it'd make more sense to let your cooker come to temp before putting your pizza in. it was 85 degrees and you put it in for 8 minutes. Am I missing something?

@Qwiv 3 жыл бұрын
You need the 110v for the igniter only, and not just a 300-500 watt inverter 110 outlet in your truck bed either. If you manually light these things, you can run them at 12v. Takes a lot of juice to light pellets with an electric igniter.

Can you tell us the biggest meats you’ve successfully cooked on you Ranger?
@terryg8520
@terryg8520 4 жыл бұрын
A brisket that was just a tad bit bigger than the cook surface. I made a foil pan to keep the overflow of hot air from burning the edges. I set it on 275 and left if for 9 hours. Make sure to keep the Ranger out of the wind when cooking on low temps. The small amount of burning pellets can get blown out pretty easy.

Can you smoke on this cause it doesn’t have a smoke setting
@terryg8520
@terryg8520 4 жыл бұрын
You can if you keep it out of the wind... I set mine on 275 for long slow cooks and the temp will range widely down at the low range between 225 and 300 which works fine as it smokes off and on during those temp changes. The 5 degree variance on the controller does not work down there. To be fair, I had some wind throughout the cook so that may have play a part in the wide temp range.

@terryg8520

I cook steaks on mine. But it does not sear them. Here is the trick straight from your favorite steak house. Cook your steak to just shy of the way you like it. Then shut down the cooker, open the lid and fire up your propane torch. Rub the flame on the steak (full flame contact) and blacken/sear it to the desired level.

It really is... I have cooked cornbread and many other recipes that say set you oven to ..... Works everytime. You have got to try meatloaf, set your pellet OVEN to 400, stab your probe in at an angle so you are in the top 3rd of the loaf, set the temp on the probe to 165 when the top 3rd reaches 165 you are in for a heavenly treat! Do not stick the probe in the middle because the top 3rd will not be done at 165 in the middle. Trust me on that and let me know what you think of it. I use a disposable aluminum pan that is 6.5 by 9 inches and 3 pounds of meat. I do not cover the top because I like a kind of crust on the top.

Flavor of smoke in the food like cooking over an open fire, ease of use, heat controlled by a thermostat and not you trying to adjust air flow all the time, long time cooking like meatloaf (yum), no toxic lighter fluid. There is a couple of reasons off the top of my head, but I could come up with more. But flavor is number 1.

My Ranger has been a total piece of crap. Spent more time with Traeger support trying to blame me than ever using this grill. They finally shipped me a new controller which took over 5 months to arrive. Replaced it started it up very same her fault code. I've had this thing for a year now. Thought it would be a good solution for my 50 percent life in the RV. Our Renegade Pro has been pretty much flawless. About to tear the guts out of this thing an fill it up with charcoals, Lol!

I am really sorry that you are having such issues with yours. I do have to admit that their support does not come through with the things they say they are going to do. When I got mine my cast iron griddle had a real bad rough area on it like covered up rust, and they said they would send a new one out to replace it. A few months later I called again and they said they could see that I was told that and they would get one out to me. I still have not, nor cannot use my griddle. My temp probe cable had frayed a while back and I guess I still haven't provided enough pictures to warrant a new one of those either. I still stand by good cooking and everything I said in my information video. I guess to those of you that watch this video in order to make a buying decision you might take into consideration that you may not get the support you would just assume you would get.
