the “white stripey bits” are actually different things if they’re in a galaxy versus a nebula. in a galaxy, the white bits you see correspond to areas with lots of hot, young, blue stars. blue stars are the hottest and brightest stars, and even though they’re blue, when clumped together in high densities, they make the surrounding area look more white. you see this a lot in the centers of galaxies and along the arms of spiral galaxies. in nebulas, different colors correspond to different types of gas and dust in the nebula. since most images of nebulae are false color, this isn’t aways the case, but oftentimes white shows the presence of oxygen, which actually releases green light, though we very often see it as white. anyways, i love this, it reminds me of the veil nebula! i want to try it next time i paint something :) p.s. this is jessie from your class two years ago, if you remember me :)

Charcoal is one of the most beautiful mediums. There is a reason it was preferred by some great artists, Matisse and DeKooning amongst them.

I’m new to art and cutting my teeth in charcoal. This is a great for beginners. What kind of paper do you use for landscapes? Is it smooth like typing paper or do you use a more textured paper designed for art work?
@EtchAndSketch4 ай бұрын
I personally use Arches aquarerelle hot press 300gsm paper to do both Pencil & Charcoal. Hope that helps 👍
@jordanswain2 ай бұрын
Those are both great recommendations for paper! Agree! It really depends on preference whether you like a smooth or rough paper- I like a little texture, for beginners, Strathmore 300 series charcoal paper works great!
