Vanbiesbrouck is EASILY one of the most underrated goalies to ever play in the NHL. His basics, and ability to stay square to the puck at all times were phenomenal…and allowed him to not have to make many desperation saves…though he could make those too!! I am so glad that I grew up in his day…I patterned my play from him…and it allowed me to go as far as accumulated injuries would permit… Thank you, Beezer!!

I remember seeing him play for the Adirondack red wings when I was a kid. Was so excited for him when he made it to the NHL and so bummed when Detroit traded him! Hope he is doing well in retirement

If the kings had a decent defense they couldve been great back then. Lessard saved the team many times. He was amazing.

Apparently some of you mokes remember a different Cam than I do. I'm a Bruins fan but I try not to be a Homie. Cam doesn't even make the NHLs top 100 players. I'll give you that his career was cut short by "Punk Hockey". Dirty plays against him, lack of calls for him. Bruins, Rangers, and Flyers, 3 teams that get garbage calls a lot.

He is a very smart, cerebral person, there was very much analysis and deliberate experiments going on while he developed his peculiar style of play. Part of why he is such a legend.

Long before Jonathan Quick, we Kings fans had Kelly Hrudey. Tough goalie and was always fun to watch. I remember my first LA Kings game, whenever he made a save, there was a fan somewhere behind me going "HRUDEEEEEEEY!!!" and rightfully so. And to this day, I personally believe his Hollywood goalie helmet is the greatest design ever.

Great but not greatest or even top 5. His style didn't work against the Soviets. They passed the puck like it was on a string and were too quick and unpredictable for him. His long body got tangled up trying to move one side to the other.

This man was a magician with the puck. Cam and the Boston Bruins always defeated my favourite team (the Montreal Canadiens) in the playoffs. I'll never forget the year when he scored 50 goals in 44 games. If Ulf Samuelsson did not connect knee-on-knee with Cam Neely, he would have been a 700+ goal scorer.

Ken Dryden's departure left a huge hole in Montreal in 1979-80 during their drive for 5. LAroque was not up to the challenge and Dennis Herron played well but was not a superstar. Later on Sevigny and Wamsley were not even close. Patrick Roy had moments but could not match Dryden and sulked his way out of Montreal. Dryden had class and dignity.

Dryden, Lemaire and Cournoyer all retired after the 79-80 season. The Habs also lost Lapointe and Savard for most of the season, and Guy Lafleur went from 50+ goal man to never topping 30 for the rest of his career. Had Dryden stayed another year, he would not be able to rescue the team. Patrick Roy was much better than Dryden. He was really a next-gen goaltender
@hockeynightinbelmont91769 ай бұрын
@@XapnoMapkc One of the 1st videos I ever made was about the collapse of the Habs Dynasty in 1979-80. Dryden was a much smarter goalie than Roy. He was a cerebral goalie and a student of the game. Montreal would have taken at least one of the Cups away from Philidelphia had Dryden not semi-retired in a Contract dispute. Roy played in the system Jacques Lemaire installed which was called the Neutral Trap. and which was eventually emulated by almost all the teams by the mid 90's. The Neutral Zone trap plus the increase in size and developement of the goaltenders equipment changed the game. Dryden was very much a better goalie than Roy.
@pierremarcoux9465 Жыл бұрын
I still recall Phil Esposito shooting from about 6 feet in front of Dryden, who gloved the shot. Espo simply stood there and stared at Dryden. Dryden later said he watched Espo's stick to determine roughly where the puck would go. The rest was luck!

Dryden was a cool oddity of his time. Very cerebral but still a fierce competitor. Long and lanky he seemed to cover a lot of the net...more than most did of that era. Great anticipation as to where the puck was going. always well positioned
