@charliepapatango2 ай бұрын
@@jameswilson5562 yeah 300WM has been a favorite for hunting and long range for me for quite some time. I keep hearing about the Bondstrikes, I just may play around with some at some point.

What bullet you loading? I am also in the 2840 to 2850 range with my 300WSM - long shooting 210 BVLD and about 69.0 grains of Re22. I was surprised with a different project also - worked up a great load for 7RemMag, Retumbo, 140 Barnes TSX. Thought I had another pound of the same lot number powder. Turned out it was my last pound I purchased about 10 years ago. All of my Retumbo on hand has been purchased since 2023. I lost 100fps on that load and there was no more room to add powder to the case unless I wanted to seriously compress the load. Thankfully, it still shot extremely well but it sucked going from 3240fps to 3140fps just because the newer Retumbo was that much slower.
@charliepapatango2 ай бұрын
@@Accuracy1st I'm loading 208 ELD-M. When I switched lots of Re22 about 4 or 5 years ago, I had a big drop in velocity, almost 100fps. And right about the 1000 round mark on that barrel within 40-50 rounds it dropped about 40fps just from barrel life. It is frustrating to loose velocity. I used to push almost 3k fps with 208s, but I'd rather have the tight velocities and groups I'm still getting over a higher speed.
@Accuracy1st2 ай бұрын
@@charliepapatango me too, hence, my handle. I only have 1 kill experience with a Hornady ELDM. That was factory 7PRC ammo last season. Big doe at around 70 yards quartering to me. Hit bone on the way in and center punched offside rib. Performed like any other hunting bullet I've used. I may try those ELDM 208s in my 300WSM - Long but just received 400 180 grain Norma Bondstrike bullets for loading and I know what they can do on game.
@charliepapatango2 ай бұрын
@@Accuracy1st in 30 cal, especially 300wm I haven't noticed a big change from ELDM vs ELDX but something like a 6.5PRC with the 147 ELDM and the 143 ELDX they both performed well on game but the 143 seemed to perform a little better and I always got an exit even passed 300 yards. Man with you getting in 400 of the Bondstrikes and they've worked well for you, I wouldn't suggest changing it up necessarily, maybe play with a few ELDs but if you've got something working good for you roll with it.
@Accuracy1st2 ай бұрын
@@charliepapatango I have to qualify that previous statement. I killed a deer with a 143 Norma Bondstrike from a 6.5CM. Outstanding bullet. I have yet to load them in my 300WSMs - the 180 grain. But just late last night I found pulled Federal Terminal Ascent 200 grain at 30 bucks per 50 not including current 10% off. I bought 300 last night and another 500 today. I'll sort out the less than ideal blemished ones for load development and keep the best ones for hunting. Don't know of anyone who would say a Terminal Ascent is not a do all bullet.

If you don't have access to someplace with a longer range, you should look into NRL22. Its a lot of fun and can be shot on much shorter ranges. Could also be a way to help keep some skills sharp until you can shoot centerfire.
@charliepapatango2 ай бұрын
Good point! I shot 22 before getting into center-fire and it was definitely a lot of fun. I've been thinking about looking at the match schedules again but just haven't. Thanks for the nudge!

Is this scope better than Mark5 glass
@charliepapatango8 ай бұрын
No I wouldn't say it's the same or better. It's still Leupold quality clarity but it is not the same as the Mark 5. I feel like clarity wise it's a closer comparison to the Razor Gen 2 maybe.
@fhadfhad71528 ай бұрын
@@charliepapatango I have a Mark 5, but I did not like the accuracy and clarity of the lens, especially when the sunset becomes dark. The Mark 5 was designed in a good way, but they neglected the quality of the lens compared to Night Force and Vortex.
@charliepapatango8 ай бұрын
@@fhadfhad7152 that's surprising. We have more than 1 Mark 5 and know some others who even switched from their Night Force to the Mark 5. We all use them in competitions and hunting applications without low light issues and surely have seen no accuracy issues. Since you mentioned Vortex, I will say there was a tracking difference in one of the Vortex models we have, there's 3 of us with the same scope and all of us have about the same difference in tracking out at 1k yards that we don't have in our other scopes so that was interesting to figure out. But if you're having clarity or tracking issues I'd definitely get with Leupold, they'll take it in, check it, and fix any issues found.
@fhadfhad71528 ай бұрын
@@charliepapatango I'm talking about the clarity of the lens, not the quality of the Mark 5. In terms of durability and manufacturing quality, the Mark 5 has the best zero-stop and a wonderful design, but in terms of the lens and clarity, it needs to be developed like the old Mark 4, and compared to the Mark 5 lens, I see it as clearer than the Mark 5. If you know someone who owns a Mark 8, you will notice the difference between the two lenses in terms of clarity. Thank you for your comment

How do you like the clarity and what have to used before?
@charliepapatango8 ай бұрын
Clarity wise I'd put it right up there beside the Razor Gen 2. The only thing you're giving up is a little bit of clarity compared to my Mark 5 but other than that you get all the features. I'm hoping to take it out this weekend for a side by side comparison of my Mark 5.

Nice, congrats! Took delivery of my MPA custom rifle early last year in 6.5 Creedmoor and absolutely love everything about it! What scope are you going to put on it? I put a Leupold mark five HD 7-35X in MPA’s one piece mount. Highly recommend that mount! I also went with the ESR chassis per Phil’s recommendation.

I just got mine about a month ago in 6.5 Creedmoor with another barrel and bolt for 6.5 PRC! Love the rifle but make sure you go through and make sure every bolt and screw is tight! Mine were not! The muzzle break wasn't even hand tight and the allen screw right in front of the folding stock was loose! Plus the Built In Inclinometer leveling system does not read level! Seems like Quality Control should be doing a better job! Good Luck!

Neato my hunting round is 6.5PRC, love it. Yes, mine was all tight and didn't have any issues but I always go through and check everything to be sure it's tight when I get a new rifle in. I honestly don't pay much attention to the installed level, I always add a scope bubble level because it's at a better view point for my personal preference lol Have fun with your new setup, I'm definitely enjoying mine!
