Unfortunately, we have a yearling Great Pyrenees that loves the new little 3 month old puppy, (fortunately!), but she confiscates all toys the new puppy wants. It makes her (puppy) reluctant to pick up toys unless she can run off with it but GP catches up pretty fast. She’ll play with her with the toy, but only for a bit. She demonstrates great patience with the play biting and does exactly what you suggest! We need to follow her lead, and stop trying to punish her with harsh words. I’m glad we found your very helpful video, as we’ve just started with this puppy about two weeks ago. Time to shift our reactions!!

To be honest, I am really hopeless. I enjoyed the video but I am sad because I think I can not manage our situation. One year ago, we found a puppy on the streets, she is a labxsharpey. She was already ill, suffering from parvovirus. We loved her, we spoilled her. She got well. But meantime, she got extremely dependent to us. So when we go to work, she doesn't eat, she doesn't drink water and she is exremely sad. She waits behind the door for us to arive home. So after one years, we decided to get her a mate. Another lab. And she doesn't accept the 9 weeks old lab, she is afraid, she salivates excessively, she trembles and she gets extremely sad. We try to confort her. We reassure her she is our baby, we keep her in out bed. We have to keep the other little lab in another room in order to avoid stressing her. We really don't know how to manage the situation.

Give it lots of time. Some dogs take weeks to accept a new puppy. Keep the puppy in a puppy pen or behind a gate. From another room sit with your dog. Whenever your dog even glances at the puppy or into the room, lots of praise and give a piece of chicken. Something really good. Only stay a few minutes and then move your dog out of the puppies vision to another room. Slowly decrease from your dog to the puppy pen. To keep the puppy calm while your dog can see it, give a filled Kong. Try a few minutes every day. Can you carry the puppy in a bag while you walk your dog. That might help. Also rub the puppy with a cloth and put the cloth on the floor. Let your dog just be in the same room with the cloth. Put some chicken o the floor and let your dog eat the chicken near the cloth. Slowly also put the food closer to the cloth until it is on the cloth. Everything in baby steps. You might try Rescue Remedy for your dog. You can give drops and put drops in water bowl and in spray with water. May help your dog a little. You are not hopeless. You only saw the good ending in that video. The owner worked for a few weeks carrying the puppy on walks with her dog. Feeding for every good look at the puppy. Let me know how you are doing. Thank you . Joyce

He doesn't respond to "stop" (as he shouldn't because he is a dog, not a human). He takes the plastic sheets of spikes we have on the couch off with ease. He just ripped the drape off the wall. GF refuses to do negative reinforcement HE BROKE 2 WINDOWS ALREADY. He is not my dog and I'm not even broaching disciplining. What can I do to prevent him from going on the couch and going ape shit at the window?

Thanks a lot for explaining this to me!! 😍 I’m a “dog harness geek” and finally I fully understand all the different details! I work with rescue dogs and always looking for the best and safest harness. I have tried many different types but my favorite one is still the one I have made by my own. 🫣 I used the most distant and cheapest Y-harness I could find on the market here in Sweden and a padded collar and a puppy/cat collar. I had a lot of soft fleece fabric at home that I also used. I used the harness as usual and then I put the padded collar around the belly and finally attached it together with the puppy/cat collar. I sewed some fleecetubes and put them where they were needed. Far faaar from as good looking as the Ruffwear harnesses, I know 😅 But to my defense, the dogs that comes through my door is so different, big, small, fat, underweight and so on… One time I had to come up with a new solution because the dog was so scared of having something pulled over his head. I simply cut the harness in pieces and sewed on some strips of velcro. Didn’t look super fancy though, but the little dog was so pleased ♥️

I don’t think he’ll like crate in the daytime
@DiamondDogTraining2 ай бұрын
The puppy pen is safe as long as he cannot climb. There are covers to prevent climbing or puppy pens with only vertical bars which are very difficult to climb/ puppy pen must be high enough to prevent jumping over. The older dog gradually accepted the new puppy. Probably in about 10 days. Thank you . Joyce

Thank you for the in depth explanations for kong toys. I didn't know there were so many types and sizes, and even one for seniors! Two beagle puppies I look after who are now 8 months old. One is a bigger boy who weighs closer to 30 pounds. The female is maybe half that size. The boy is an aggressive chewer. Should I move him up to the large puppy? The kongs originally bought were puppy small. Too small now for them. I was thinking the female should move up to medium puppy. The large puppy for her may be too much of a risk for getting her lower jaw stuck.Both pups are still teething.
@DiamondDogTraining2 ай бұрын
Thank you. 8 months of age both the puppies are almost done teething. I would move to the classic red Kong medium size for the female as long as she is over 10pounds. The male at 30 pounds could have the medium size red or for an aggressive chewer, you might want the black extreme Kong. Hope this helps. Joyce
@liveyouryoga2 ай бұрын
@@DiamondDogTraining Thank you. it does and I will pass it on to the pet parents. I think the male pup is more of a destructive chewer than an aggressive chewer. I get them mixed up. They are both destructive chewers but one more so than the other. That’s why I suggested Kongs. Maybe this will help the male to stop chewing on his blankets!
