I’ve got a leak outside my skylight coming into the attic like 2” away from the side of the skylight, through a nail hole that punctured into the attic barrier. The roof is sloping with asphalt shingles. I was going to try putting a thick layer of LIQUID RUBBER WATERPROOF SEALANT all around the outside of the skylight, including on the adjacent shingles around it and a little under the shingle ends above it. Would this possibly work? I live in Hawaii so hot sun. (Roofer looked at it for 2 minutes and said all skylights leak eventually and they don’t recommend them and he said I should take all mine out and redo them. (15 year old house). Windward side of house and very windy always there.. My video of the inside of the leak I posted under my profile. Thanks.

It's like trying to buy toothpaste, there are just too many decisions. and frankly none of them look easy. I have a simple, small square footage shed roof with a very low pitch, .5:1. The shed is my machine shop, lathe, small mill etc. no idea which way to go, rubber, this, the other.. Regular asphalt roof cement caulk works great for that. They shouldn't have used shingles below a 4/12 pitch.

Absolutely do not use silicone on epdm roofs unless you intend on fixing it for the duration of its usefullness. Nothing sticks to silicone. Period. Epdm products are there for a reason theres all sizes and thicknesses for all repair issues. I repeat never use silicone anything on epdm.
