So much optimism in this video…yet American ended up being the worst of the remaining legacies. Uninspired cabins, crap service and shabby terminals. Plus the tension between all the different workgroups 2-3 decades later.

I wear a pair of ear plugs around my neck at work in case the fire alarm 🚨 sounds at ear piercing decibel levels. The extremely high decibel alarm makes evacuation needlessly stressful. People need both hands and should not have to plug their ears on the way out

11:10That's being a little selective with the facts. Compared with a JT8D, yes, but I think these early ones had JT9Ds the same as on 747-100s

It was the first aircraft by Boeing that offered a choice of power plants. P&W JT-9D or GE CF-6. Both choices offered 48,000 lbs. Max thrust.

The 767-200 did look cute, you must admit. And though it may have been rather dated by then, it did look good in TWA livery.

It’s pretty hilarious how wildly inaccurate this piece of corporate propaganda would prove be in predicting the future. Especially for the TWA flight attendants who transferred to American Airlines with no seniority and were all let go after 9/11. That said, TWA had been gutted relentlessly by horrendous management decisions for 20 years. It was not so much a merger of equals as it was a mercy kill by American Airlines.

@ American did nothing but furloughed thousands of flight attendants, restarted our seniority, and slashed our benefits compared to our fellow AA coworkers. We were put on the back burner…. It’s funny how when I went to Delta, they gave me my seniority from TWA back…

Recently American added an aircraft to its Heritage Fleet saluting TWA - a Boeing 737-800 with a version of the livery TWA used from the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s - to the best of my knowledge the livery used by TWA the longest. The choice of a Boeing jet was fitting as BOTH airlines entered the jet age with the 707.

TWA employees can be salty with AA - it’s understandable. But it’s also understandable that this was a terrible merger at a terrible time in history. I’m sure AA regrets it more than anyone else. And let’s face reality - TWA had declared bankruptcy for the third time in 10 years. The only way they were leaving Chapter 11 in late 2001 was through Chapter 7 Liquidation.

They've kept the same door for simplicity sake. Reduces need for crew training on the type. The overwing exits are different on the 737NG and max compared to the 727

@ I’ve worked on both the 737 and A320. I never liked the 737 as it always felt more claustrophobic and of course those stupid doors which were a pain to close from the inside and quite dangerous if the airstairs had been removed.

I noticed no mention of emptying the armrest ashtrays. Was TWA already smoke-free by 1990? Also, all this time I assumed the blankets and pillows were replaced after each flight... I'm trying not to think about the airplane blankets and pillows I used as a kid. Of course, it's not a problem these days, since airlines don't have any blankets or pillows unless you're in business class or maybe flying international.

What I think is amazing is that we just have to use our imagination about these amazing seats and configurations. I want to see what the Ambassador seat looks like! What was I missing out on in 1982?
@Ben-xe8ps
@Ben-xe8ps 4 ай бұрын
There was nothing 'amazing' about these seats and configurations. One problem with the 767 was the cabin width. Although this allows a nice 2 X 3 X 2 configuration in Y class, reducing the number of centre seats and, I believe, allowing for a very slightly wider seat than on a 737, the opposite holds true in F and C class where a 7 abreast Y configuration is reduced by only 1 seat per-row to a 6 abreast configuration making for a very narrow F class seat. Look at the F class seats in the video at 7.54. I don't know if these are the real seats or this is a mock up of the cabin, but look at the width of the armrests compared to normal F class armrest width ... these look more like Y class armrests. These seats also lack the traditional wide centre armrest of F class seats with the little drinks table. Many airlines opted for 5 abreast seating in F class 2 X 1 X 2 or 1 X 2 X 2.
