Do you think that pickup and amp combo would work well for punk/grunge styles?
@TheEngarn5 күн бұрын
@@Zebberz1031 it should. Unless you are after a more aggressive midrange. But even for that sound this combo with a TS style pedal works fine.

Man, this is so slick! I absolutely love your phrasing and the surprises! At certain points you expect the solo to go a certain direction or hit that one note, but then you pull out some other trick instead. NICE 🤘And for a JB, you're getting a really creamy sound out of it.
@TheEngarn8 күн бұрын
@@TheXaskrew thank you, appreciated! The JB can be a one trick pony for creamy tones but it works pretty well with Diezel amps for that.

Great riff and overall playing. I'm not a PRS guy and it isn't that ugly. It looks a lot like an Ibanez Satriani or vaguely like an ESP/LTD F-Type. I'd check your tuning or watch the bends/plan the location of the bends. They sounded a little flat compared to the backing track. Generally, bends are done up to the octave, fifth, 3rd, and other strong chord tones. Bending up from a b3 to a 4th sounds a little out of tune and flat, but bending between b3 and 3 can be very bluesy because you're going between major and minor. Bending up to a 7th can either sound bland (b7) or out of tune if you hang out on it (major 7th). In this case, the chord progression generally goes, E5, Emin, then what looks like a C7, C (open note), B (open note). So basically a I, bVI, V. E minor, E harmonic minor, and Phrygian mode would fit well here and you're using parts of them. The Eb at 0:31 and E at 0:33 bending up to the F can be a little off. The Eb would be from E harmonic minor (maj 7th) and the F (minor 2nd) should be from Phrygian, so both should work here, but if the note doesn't land on pitch it will sound bluesy, to put it mildly. :) I wouldn't linger a long time on tension notes like the maj 7, min 2nd, and diminished 5th (blue note). Maj 7 wants to go to the octave. b2 wants to go to 1. b5 wants to go up to 5 or down to 4. Passing over these notes quickly for color is called passing tones. You can combine harmonic minor and Phrygian for what is called Neapolitan minor (1, b2, b3 4, 5, b6, 7). I use it all the time because you get 7, 1, and b2 in a straight chromatic line. Overall, good job. :)

Never ceases to amaze me, PRS has such a talent for making Ugly as sin guitars lmao. Sounds great though, nothing like Tony. 99% of tone is your fingers. Please do not cut yours off.

It’s ok you can’t afford one anyway😊
@I-HAVE-A-BOMBАй бұрын
@KM-zv8zi Definitely, too busy buying ESP and snatching up every 90s mij jackson I find. I'd honestly not pay 400 bucks for any PRS. it's the apple of the guitar world, rock bottom quality, ugly as sin, 15-20 years behind and no one can give you any real reason why they like them. I love ESP because they have the best necks/fretboards and QC on the planet. They've also pushed the craft foward into the future with their luthier academy's.
@TheEngarnАй бұрын
Thanks!! Well, given the neck dive of the SG, which really bothers me, this was the closest I could find without that problem. It is mahogany and has roughly the SG scale length. Not too convinced with the PRS radius though. As for the PRS beauty, that's in the eye of the beholder..

In today's standards thats almost a clean tone lol .. Also, I think not many players today can handle such an uncompressed unsaturated tone, either.. more difficult to play . . you need to rely more upon your chops and technique. Nice playing, btw.
@TheEngarnАй бұрын
Thanks! There is a gain threshold where the more we go above the smaller it sounds but the easier it is to play. One should try to find the ideal balance for each amp. This one allows for pretty clean sounds with attitude. AC/DC are the proof of that.

Those I have are in the 16 to 17 range. But the 16.4 is a ballpark, I'm sure that out there are pretty different ones because of differences in magnets and other materials besides the typical variability in manufacturing.

@@TheEngarn in fact, Robben had the original pick ups changed, they were too much powerful for his taste. He asked a great french luthier to put Ron Ellis pick ups instead. I will ask Alexandre the Ron Ellis model.

@TheEngarn Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The SG 61 is a favorite of mine but I hate the neck dive of the SGs. This PRS has the SG feel without the neck dive. But with the PRS be prepared to change the electronics because they are pretty lousy. My guitar was a month old and there were already faulty contacts in the switch etc.
