I dont even use tents anymore, i started just exclusively going with a hammock, and a trusty tarp for overhead water proofing

I got a two piece tent for like 70€. It only has one supporting arch. The setting up only takes like 5-10 minutes. The other layer keeps the water out while the inner layer is made from insects mesh which let the air in but none of the uninvited guests. Its the Cardova 1 from Grand Canyon if someone is interested getting one themselves.

Doesn’t the rain run down the straps and soak the hammock?

Not if you leave a bit of cord hanging off the clips 👍

I think it works better in areas with warmer and better weather like California for example. During summer you probably don't need the under quilt or sleeping bag. Just bring a blanket or something. No rain means no tarp, but you probably could use a mosquito net though.

Those bag ratings really have a lot to answer to. They are never correct. I've frozen through some nights, nothing 10 burpees couldn't fix or warm stones from the fire. How tall are you btw? I wanted to get this but if I can't sit up then no point.

Hammock camping is great, especially for rainy nights. Hang yours a little tighter so you aren't doubled up all night. Definitely hang the foot six inches or so lower than the head. You don't need a ground pad, but bring an extra wool blanket for under you. Use a tarp that is several feet longer than the hammock so rain doesn't sneak in the ends. If it is still raining in the morning, you can pack up your entire camp under the tarp, and then do the tarp last; that way all your gear stays dry except the tarp.

You don’t mention when you originally bought the tent , where from (as this affects the UK 2015 Consumer Rights Act ) and how long had you had the tent before it failed . These are important details as depending on those will determine your course of action. So it may just be a case of returning the tent for repairs or replacement. Or if you decide to persue the company to put them on say 10 day notice of you taking them to the small claims court .

Have to say my Wild Country Trisar tent is now 35 years old and performs very well , in fact just like a tent . I did have to replace one fly sheet as it had deteriorated due to sunlight etc . I paid circa £300 in 1990

Amazon sells a fantastic 2 man tent, with aluminium poles and in a similar design, it's called a Forceatt tent. It's about £70, plus about £7 to replace the pegs for the better Y shaped pegs. It really is phenomenally good for the price!!! It claims to be 2.5kg, but I weighed mine after switching out the pegs and it is 1.936kg 👍🏼

It does now I’ve modified it. As standard it’s stuck at the floor.
