The explain works on a statement level (select/update/delete/etc). A proc can have many statements.

@@alexphatelevich3876 EXPLAIN is a feature of the dedicated SQL pool, it isn't supported in SQL SERVER.

The EXPLAIN part only worked for me in Azure Data Studio, not in SSMS, in case that helps anyone.

Yep, or course you can. The automation account is just a way of executing the powershell.

Maybe this was answered already, but after choosing authentication MSI and for the resource, where does this link come from 'management.core.windows.net'. I'm very new to Azure so i'm still learning a lot

I got it from a friends video - but if you pick MSI , put the wrong info in. You will see an error message and it will tell you what it should be in the error message. The actual details are on this page : docs.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/azure/ - Scroll down and find 'Request URI'

Trying to do this with the ADF-built-into-synapse and not getting success. When I get to the role assignment part @ 8:56, i can't find the managed identity - nothing shows up under data factory or the other services. Is there a different process for the ADF that's BUILT IN to synapse?

@@itsobzcure Hey man, I found out that this approach is outdated and dosn't work. Please use PowerShell scripts and put them into Automation Account Runbook part.

@@romangaleev5150 wondering why you think it's an outdated solution? It's just working fine if implemented correctly! I got your same error initially, for the servername make sure it's just the name not name.database.windows.net (hope that helps)

Yes, its possible. Its identical if you do it from Intergrate (The ADF stuff thats built into Synapse workspace) But you will notice the API version has changed. Thanks for the link.

Thank you Mark! Just to be clear. This procedure creates a brand new SQL Pool directly into the Workspace starting from an external one. But does not move the original one. So in order to clean-up all the resources and optimize costs it's needed to delete the external pool. Am I right?

Yes, it creates a copy. So yes, you need to delete the old one. There will be a better process by GA.

@@MarkPryceMaher : hi Mark, it seems that there is no such enhanced migration process yet in place after GA. If we are creating a copy of existing database on the same server is connection string staying the same (or initial catalogue will change into the new pool name)?
